It apparently got a good ways into the launch sequence before some safeguard shut it down, though apparently made it much further into the process than should have been possible. I'm failing in remembering details and a quick Google only returns the opposite, UFOs allegedly shutting down nukes, but maybe someone else here has a better memory than I
