yeah it's way good. happy to have become a fan of theirs a few years ago and see their sound progress. they don't let the black metal riffing linger *too* long before throwing in a disgusting slamming breakdown with slop vocals.

I mean, can he? I don't know if there's any footage of him doing vocals, lol. But Bad Wolves makes a lot of sense, DL has always been big into numetal. I think his favorite bands are Sevendust and Meshuggah.

I saw some producer guy sharing the news on FB saying it was a great match and DL was a very good singer, so... I guess? Haha

sevendust is good. i think they're probably the best nu metal band of all time in terms of sheer songwriting ability and cool jams. deftones maybe holds that title for most people but i think sevendust is basically killswitch engage lite and that rules

Tbh, it's not entirely fair: Like make no mistake, I loving love Deftones and Every Time I Die, but Chino and Keith are wildly "unreliable" live. Lajon Witherspoon is, like, the whole loving package of vocal work.

Speaking as a big ol' ETID fan, Keith is far and away the worst part of their live show.

Keith is an amazing entertainer, despite his shortcomings as a live singer.

Came to post that! I'm more stoked for Dying Wish and Orthodox, but Kublai Khan and TAS will also be sick! Not sure who I'd pick between KK and HW if I had the choice, but I'm not mad that it's KK on the Denver dates. Also, the venue they're playing is A. pretty small for this lineup and B. less than a block from my place, so that fuckin' rules.

Shoog, when you were in town, did you go to 3 Kings by chance?

Super bummed it's not coming anywhere even near me, but I'm going to see the 8/28 Palladium show (The Ghost Inside, ETID, TAS, Currents, Great American Ghost) so there's that at least!

i didn't. i was in town for a work conference and didn't get to hit any shows. i did, however, make the mistake of chugging a 40oz at 1up and then getting absolutely blind drunk at Tooey's.

also, i'll be in town in november for the midnight. ever been to the gothic theater?

Ah, okay. 3 Kings was a punk-y dive that closed down during covid, but got reopened as HQ (which is where that TAS show will be), which is why I asked. Sadly, Tooey's also shuttered back in Dec. RIP to some good bars

Nice! The gothic is a solid venue. It fits ~1k people, so it sees a good number of metal shows where they can't fill out the big venues, but have outgrown the smaller rooms. It's also just a few miles from me, so I catch shows there fairly often. Also doesn't hurt that you can grab some decent (by CO standards) BBQ and some cheap drinks next door at Moe's before the show

i love that TAS is kind of a "big" band but they have recently been playing small clubs. i imagine a venue like how you're describing the gothic would be a good fit for TAS maybe at the height of wormwood?

also i don't actually remember being at tooey's, i just know i was there. bummer i won't be able to go back and actually experience it with full consciousness.

That Chicago venue, Beat Kitchen, is a dive bar with a back room. Should be wild.

Can't say I'm terribly familiar with Structures (outside of listening to like 1 EP forever ago), so I didn't know they'd been largely silent for a while, but apparently THEY'RE BACK. This track has me thinking I should go back and check 'em out.

This borders on shamelessly pandering to me and I love it. It's a pretty big step up from their debut too, which was already fun but didn't have much lasting power. This is probably an "old man yells at clouds" take but I like this style of -core so much more than pretty much anything that's emerged in the last decade. Architects is cool and all but it's okay to not sound like them, y'know?

I hope this and that SYSC/IIDF split from a couple months ago help usher in a new utopia of babby's first Gothenburg riffs, panic chord breakdowns, and dudes with guyliner screaming Xanga poetry about that girl who friendzoned them in middle school :allears:

at the gates w/ breakdowns will forever be superior to linkin park w/ breakdowns

meshuggah w/ breakdowns is also acceptable but you still need either of the above for it to actually make something worth listening to and be any kind of memorable

This doesn't strictly fit here but some of y'all may enjoy it - I directed my first music video a couple months ago and it was released today, I'm pretty pumped about it and the song's a banger imo. They're sort of mid-2000s post-hardcore along the lines of Thursday/Coheed/Fall of Troy

Ayyye thanks, we tried not to take it too seriously and just have fun with it. They're pretty drat good all-around, although what I've heard from this upcoming album is a step up from their previous work imo. The guitarist/singer is also in a hardcore band that rips (along the lines of Zao/Converge/ETID). They don't have any music on YouTube for whatever reason but have a handful of things on Spotify & Bandcamp:
