Haven't restaurant prices been rising anyway and sometimes without the increased wages for employees?

Yes because labor is the single smallest part of all restaurant costs. Building rent, raw materials, and equipment costs all tend to be vastly higher than employee pay.

Odd that a company that I think is sitting on $1.2 billion dollars but can't afford to pay their workers more without jacking up prices. Almost like the system itself is lovely.

I was looking into this a little and it looks like people pay to be considered, then a nominating jury decides on the finalists, then the board chooses the winner. The board decided none of the nominees deserved an award this year FOR SOME REASON.

I was pretty tickled when I saw they were giving no awards, but the fact that these folks were the finalists really puts the decision into a new light.

Hi all, if you want to add a kellies category, just be sure to include the magic phrase

Kellies nomination

In this case, we'll go ahead and say there's a "best overall" category this year- I've generally been in favor of such a thing.

From the Pulitzers fact sheet on their procedures:

quote:

BOARD
The Board is composed of 18 members, 17 of whom are voting members. Members serve a maximum of three, three-year terms.

JURIES
Juries range in size from three to seven members. Journalism juries generally have five or seven members, depending on the volume of entries in a category. Book juries have three to five members each. Music and Drama juries have five members each.

PROCEDURE
The Board makes the final decisions after evaluating all the finalists nominated by the juries and considering jury reports. Prizes are awarded by majority vote of the Board, but the Board is also empowered to vote “no prize,” or by three-fourths vote to switch nominations between categories or to select any entry that has not been nominated by a jury.

If you want someone to complain to,

here's the 2021 Pulitzer board.

Bear in mind it's possible that the jury may have actually played a role in this.

Given the procedures above, it is likely that not all of the board were refusing to award a prize. It may be worth asking them what happened.

Apparently last year they also chose a winner who wasn't one of the finalists. It more just seems that they don't give a gently caress about the process and do whatever they want.
