Mämmilä (November 13, 1993) Looks like Rane is starting to overplay his hand... 'Aho government' is the center-right government of Esko Aho, serving a single term 1991-1995. It's harsh austerity measures and monetary policies against economic depression did not endear it to either the general populace or businesses.

SYLVIA STATUS: ACQUIRED SCANNING TO COMMENCE SHORTLY In other news, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago has a new exhibit opening next week! Chicago Comics 1960s to Now. Featured will be Nicole Hollander, Linda Barry (who I might start posting once I’ve got Sylvia all squared away), Chester Gould, Dale Messick, our beloved Morrie Turner, and a bunch of underground comix and magazine cartoonists I’m excited to learn more about. The MCA also has the majority of the archives (and a lot of the original office, they recreated it for an installation some years back!) of the Chicago Defender, so I’m hoping some rare and/or obscure and enlightening Black cartooning history will be featured. If anyone else lives in the Chicago area, or plans on visiting, or wants to visit, it’s running all summer! Cherry seems to be using tactics worse than whatever sin the HOA did. HOA bad sure, but they're legally in the right so She was griping that the butterfly bushes are an invasive species but is now resorting to... feral hogs? That's a fine drawing of a charming boar and all but feral hogs are so invasive you can freely mow them down with whatever 2nd amendment wet dream you can get your hands on. Also what message does this send? The HOA won't hire her to replace them, they'd just get another set of butterfly bushes. I guess Mark Trail being an insane strip about spiteful eco-terrorists is still much better than its last incarnation. There just always seems to be a line of narrative reasoning missing. And if the next arc is about another figure from Mark's childhood it'll risk going into the bottom half of the quality curve.

Is Tiff really going to have to eat the blame for that breakup? Because I read those strips and the responsibility for that breakup was all down to Bets and Gunther. Mostly Bets (Greg and Karen were determined to make her a monster in that storyline). A relationship that can't survive one dinner not going as planned isn't much of a relationship.

Dad is right because the tines are what you put in your mouth, and not having them against the plastic grating means that there’s more surface area exposed to the hot water and soap and rinsing agent I also remember that a few years after this was published, I walked in on my dad and stepmom having this exact argument so I just copied Jeremy and they both laughed and quit arguing about it. Thanks, newspaper comics!

Silverware also points down to reduce the chance of stabbing yourself while emptying the silverware basket. Except in my dishwasher, where the basket is designed with little holes to put the handles through so it's impossible to put forks in with the tines down.

Moomin winter Honestly, just do a Lynn and chuck him out into a snowbank, save yourself some hassle. Lunch TN: Does the first speech bubble parse correctly? The whole 'remind me never:' setup makes it hard to feel how the sentence is supposed to flow. TN2: Running on fumes: The boss uses the expression 'helt på felgen', aka the rim of a car's hubs, it refers to driving with a wheel completely empty of air, thus on the felg. As you imagine, this translates to being completely exhausted / running on fumes.

I used to insist on points down until I had a discussion about it with a point-upper and looked it up and discovered point-up is the proper method. Turns out my fear of getting stabbed by tines was easily prevented by not recklessly jabbing my hand into the dishwasher to empty it. I don't put like steak knives point-up but those generally don't belong in the dishwasher anyways.

My parents have a dishwasher which neatly sidesteps this conundrum by having a third rack where you lay the silverware down on its side.
