Ugh, I can't complete any tutorials where I am, and I can't seem to beam up. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my ship, I just can't beam up.

Is it just me, or did the latest Arc update just break the game? I can't press Shift without it bringing up the streaming settings menu, and that seems like a pretty bad key to override for your hotkey, given that it is required for running in the default keybind and it is used for typing capital letters when chatting.

Edit: I fixed it by changing the default shortcut for opening the Arc overlay from Shift+F1, Shift in practice for some reason, to End.

I suggest just launching the game directly via its own exe instead of using arc for anything but redeeming promos.

I'm just gonna see if Cryptic's support can fix it eventually.

In the meantime, it seems like how builds work has changed a good bit. If I want to use the bathtub carrier I have, what's a good build for that?

This site in general is probably the best STO information hub. The beam ship guide here https://www.sto-league.com/beam-ships-in-the-current-century/ is solid and you can probably adopt it to a carrier.

I've got a dumb question of my own related to traits, namely I picked up Onboard Dilithium Recrystalizer for cheap and I'm curious at what power level does it activate at? 100 or 130? If it's the later it's obviously useless, but at 100 I could get some use out of it.

^^Max is 125 unless you're using one of the abilities that changes the max. Since it's only non-weapon power, I'd say it's useless for any DEW ship, but could see some use on non-romulan sci or torp boats. Reddit reports that engineer captain abilities count as triggers as well as engineer boff abilities, if you happen to be an engineer.

That site is probably the best on the web right now, but it's not very friendly to new players. It's less a build, and more a guide that gives a build framework and lots of options to slot into that framework, usually listing them from most effective to least with no concern to availability or price. Don't worry if you can only afford the budget stuff listed in it, that's ok.

The mission that old kdf chars need to complete is called "Duties of Command". It's just running around First City for a bit then killing a handful of guys on ground.

But it sounds like wdarkk might have bigger problems. Hopefully support will be able to work it out. Wdarkk, while you wait, you might as well create a new character to reacquaint yourself with the game and some of the changes in the past 5 years.

Admiralty missions and endeavors can be a decent source of raw EC, beyond that you're going to be farming dilithium to convert to zen to convert to keys to sell if you want raw EC, but the zen is probably better spent buying ships directly than trying to save for the off chance someone is selling your lockbox ship on the exchange for anything less than the cap.

Lobi ships are an 'affordable' 250mil to 300mil but yeah anything more advanced is not even listed on the exchange anymore thanks to inflation.

Lockbox ships are usually on the exchange in the 900m - 1.1b range. It's just promo ships that have been priced off the exchange.

After unfucking my klank captains I hit 65 in short order off admiralty. Is there a way to claim my cross-faction admiralty cards without spend all day claiming and dismissing dozens of ships?

EDIT: After saying that, logging to another character seems to have done it?

These days you can just visit the ship... hangar... person I forget the specific name of at a starbase, the one where you choose which boat to fly. Once you check your ships you'll automatically be given cards for every currently owned ship and every account-unlocked ship, though it may take a second or two. This was added a while back and thank god for it.

Sometimes it takes relogging, or like just buy a shuttle for 20k. Shuttles are free pass cards anyway so always a good idea to get em on alts.

I'm doing stuff on New Romulus. And *EVERY* time I go into some cave or whatever following the story, I get a new story mission to go back into the cave and do the exact same thing again. This is irritating.

If that's the bug I'm thinking of, try this tip from the Star Trek Online Wiki page:

quote:

Tip: DO NOT exit the Cave when the mission is complete. Turn in the mission, pick up the next one "Web Access", Input the Tholian Codes and Submit the Recording. Then exit the Cave.

There are certain ships this doesn't work with, namely anything you might get from the pick-3 Mudd packs that has multiple starship. This will result in you effectively getting the same ship multiple times because most of those packs were from before cross faction ships became a thing.

should be noted that this guide is from last year and pre-superior area of denial nerf, its still a good trait for spreading the damage resistance debuff with B:FAW but it is no longer the be-all-end-all trait for carriers and using the rare To'Duj fighters is no longer the best option

Asimo

It's still a great trait period for carriers, the nerf is overrated, all that did was keep your pets from topping DPS charts on their own. Which admittedly was pretty hilarious.

I'm struggling to get into this game. From the one mission I took, it seems to be a major time commitment. Are there simpler missions where I can just go fight in space, or do they tend to always involve some travel, ground combat and space combat. My ship was blown up on the first mission I took fighting some sort of shape shifter. I get how the combat works, but I'm probably not making the most of the situation. I just sort of did the Pirates' like thing of pointing my strongest ship side toward the enemy and firing when I was able.

Story missions can go anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes each. Some are only space or ground, most have a bit of both.

Also, there are generally points where you can hop out of a mission and resume later.

galenanorth

You know your progress has been saved when the name at the top of the mission log on the right side of your screen changes. This most often happens when you beam up from the ground portion or leave one star/planetary system for another system for a consecutive space portion.

Is there anything else I have to do to get the reputation doubling effects? I made a jem'hadar who is at tier 5 Iconian Resistance and Task Force Omega. Finished the intro and picked federation. Then I went and did a daily project on my main and it only gave 2500 reputation, which is the normal amount.

It's not really a bug. Originally, after completion of each tier in the New Rom reputation you would unlock a mini-mission. They were in the same areas as the regular New Rom missions, but since you were waiting on Rep completion most players ran them days or even months after doing the other missions in the area, so it didn't feel as repetitive. Also, they didn't show up until the reputation system unlocked, which meant they were being run by max-level characters who could run through the areas pretty quickly.

Then cryptic made a bunch of changes to the reputation system, and for some reason (probably laziness) instead of deleting the missions or folding them into the other missions, just added them into the mission list. The good news is that this only happens for the New Rom series of missions, and if you just did the caves one it only happens one more time. If you look at the Episodes tab, you can identify the ones like this because they'll have the same mission picture as the mission directly above them.

There are some longer and some shorter missions in the game. At end-game there are plenty of quick patrols and TFOs (this game's rough equivalent of raids) that are just space combat, and generally don't take long at all. Episodes tend to have a combination of ground and space combat, sometimes some minor puzzle solving, and lots of reading/listening to voice acting.

One question is did it take a long time because you were reading/absorbing the story, or did it take a long time because of combat? The storylines don't get any shorter in missions, but combat gets faster as you get better equipment and learn better how to fly a ship. Which you'll probably have to do by asking a lot of questions or getting information out of game, because the game itself does a horrible job teaching you how to play.

If it helps, I generally finish that mission on new alts in less than 5 minutes. Some of that is skipping all the dialog I already know, some is knowing when I can run ahead to trigger the next part of the mission, some is knowing how to build even a low level ship in the game, and some is having access to event gear.

Thanks for the tips. The space combat took a long time. I was barely doing any damage, and I was blown up before the federation ships showed up to help. It was dreadful slow going. I don't remember it being that bad when I played before, so maybe I need to look at my ship and see if something is setup wrong.

Was this more or less the first non-tutorial mission where you're escorting a Vulcan to a monastery? You're supposed to do next to no damage to that boss ship, and focus on shooting down projectiles to stay alive long enough if I recall.

That's the one. That ship sure didn't like me. Ok, so in my attempt to just power through the mission I was already bored with, I probably missed that dialog. I'll give the game another go tonight when I have more time. I was in a hurry this weekend, and the game wasn't having that.

Space combat will be slower and more deliberate for a good chunk of the early levels, but yeah, that's a unique situation that isn't communicated very well.

According to the wiki, you have to take the "free" T5 Jem'Hadar reputations to T6 to unlock double rep on alts.
