It's very funny how quickly Gritty got dropped by the DSA meme guys. A universal and all too brief moment of self-awareness.

Even funnier that a literal corporate mascot became the Face Of Leftism among a certain set for a while for no discernable reason whatsoever.

yeah there’s no use case where it’s more efficient or more secure than standard methods of accounting

i'm finding this quite easy, i guess in part because i'm a fast type but also because i have a coherent mental model of the world
marx suggests paying workers in labor vouchers in critique of the gotha program, but the novelty there isn't that your vouchers reflect work done - money already does that, or at least tends to per the LTV. what makes currency compatible with socialism isn't what it measures but what it buys and the extent to which it can be transferred or pooled

isn't the difference that the excel spreadsheet can be hidden and monopolized, but the blockchain is open and distributed?

it obviously has zero use case under current conditions but in the context of different social relations, maybe it could be worth something.

git (source control system) is an example of applied cryptographic hashes to dissuade tampering of the data while keeping data distributed and open

these merkle trees are an applied concept that predates bitcoin by decades

the only thing bitcoin adds is proof of work which is unnecessary if you have a functioning society. and if you don't have a functioning society the possible benefits of a distributed computer currency are going to be moot

obv we don't have a functioning society so the point is moot, but wouldn't proof of work be useful if we had smashed exchange value and replaced it with labour time accounting?

proof of work is a mechanism to just pointlessly waste labor time and has no accounting benefit

the irony as usual is that it's lenin's enemies who were economy-first class reductionists and the actual communists who put a premium on such things as national liberation struggles and an end to ethnic or religious oppression

Atrocious Joe

there's really no "class reductionist" organizations in the US with any national profile besides SEP and the WSWS, and I wouldn't call them "tankies." The front page of their website today has a headline accusing people of being Stalinist.

Some people are naturally going to refuse to even care about race & gender because those fall under the auspices of bourgeois freedoms, whereas class struggle and class interests have been languishing for decades and only backsliding. You can't even talk about them as being bourgeois freedom issues because that seems dismissive, but it is what they are. Race and gender are easily co-opted by bourgeois interests because there is a non-white and queer bourgeois. On the other hand there is no such thing as a proletarian capitalist.

Rather than wringing hands over what looks like a class-only or class-first reaction, these people should be asking why their class politics have completely failed.
