I didn't realise that it wasn't the murdoch backed one. They don't even have Piers Morgan lol

I'm feeling very conflicted about gb news. On the one hand, I want to see them embarrass themselves. On the other, literally the entire point is to generate clickbaitey clips of right wingers embarrassing themselves so they can claim they're triggering snowflakes, the actual best result is just that nobody cares enough to even laugh.

I guess the opening night went well on that front, I can't even see anyone sharing clips for lols, just the odd screengrab. I think maybe part of the reason why Piers Morgan got so many clicks for his GMB nonsense was the campiness of it all, I think this lot might be too earnest to actually harness that. Hopefully, anyway.

Q: What do you and Labour stand for?

Starmer says he stands for coming out of this pandemic and building a much better Britain.

Q: Your personal rating is -29, which is where Jeremy Corbyn was after 14 months in the job. Labour is more than 10 points behind the Tories in one poll. And you personally are behind with Muslim voters, even though your party is ahead. Why?

Starmer says poll ratings go up and down.

Q: Yours are just going down.

Starmer says there is a “pretty strong headwind” behind the government. The vaccine rollout has been successful. And he says the government is still paying people’s wages.

lmao. “We stand for the same thing as the tories and also the tories are doing great”

Yeah the best result would be if it was quietly closed because no one watched it. It was aggravating to see every single Twitter leftist giving it the oxygen of publicity yesterday.

e: on a more serious note, why should government performance affect Starmer's personal ratings? They're asking whether he's doing a good job, not whether he's doing a better job than Johnson.

e2: well okay, some of them are probably asking that.

Well yes but then Twitter at the moment has Eric Clapton complaining about vaccine side-effects and being thoughtfully retweeted as a common-sense truth-teller by Right Said Fred so while you're not wrong, per se, I think we should consider that the state of Twitter discourse is so baffling that I'm seriously wondering if I fell into a coma in the late 90s and my brain has been trying to invent increasingly bizarre events to try and get me to wake up.

The Labour party are now for people who would vote Tory if they didn't have a personal stake in the Labour party.

Seriously we're like two weeks away after the Government's chief advisor coming out and saying that the Tory party dramatically hosed up everything and Boris personally said "I don't care, let the bodies pile up high" and it's just a distant memory now. How is that not on the lips of every person going anywhere near a camera?

I think it'll stick around in some form, I'm just not sure how popular it will be. The right wingers I know thought it was a breath of fresh air with what it talked about and how it talked about it. Though I don't know how long it will last, there is always an endless supply of 'hot button' issues for them to discuss.

Starmer rated far less favourably than Labour by Muslim voters, poll finds

quote:

Sienna Rodgers

New polling has found that Keir Starmer is rated far less favourably than his party by British Muslims, suggesting that he may be a drag on Labour’s ticket among these voters and setting alarm bells ringing ahead of a key by-election.

Research was commissioned by the Labour Muslim Network after its activists campaigning in the May 2021 elections reported back to the organisation that Labour’s vote was collapsing in traditional Labour Muslim areas of the country.

The new Survation poll shows that while the Labour Party as a whole has a strong net favourability rating among British Muslims of +42%, Starmer – elected as leader in April last year – has a net favourability of -7% among these voters.

quote:

44% of those consulted said they did not believe the party took the issue of Islamophobia seriously, and 48% said they did not have confidence in Labour to deal with Islamophobia effectively via its complaints process.

Fortunately they still seem to identify with the party with 72% saying they support Labour. But this is down from 2019.

My confusion over the gmb news thing is that we just don't seem to have the same news channel culture over here as there is in the states, so I don't really understand who's gonna be watching it at all.

I feel like the majority of people who have the telly on all day just generally stick it on BBC / ITV, as opposed to Sky News or whatever, and they just happen to get some news every few hours, rather than consciously tuning into it.

And I don't feel like Andrew Neil is gonna be a big enough draw to change people's viewing habits so drastically.

UKMT Solidarity Fund Monthly Update - 14th June 2021

Holy cow this is a late update! Sorry about that. A combination of 'fun' circumstances has prevented me getting much use out of the computer lately.

We still can't withdraw PayPal donations, unfortunately, and we're still working on the issue. We want to make sure that when we do our Big Constitution Update that allows us to register as a charity, we get it right, so we're consulting with various acquaintances who (hopefully) know their poo poo. With luck we can make the necessary changes all in one shot.

On the good news side - someone was extremely generous this month and so despite the hit in Paypal income our finances remain in tip-top shape, as you can see from the charts below.

Thanks again for allowing us to continue helping goons in need. And as always, if your finances are causing you distress, remember that we exist - it's dead simple to apply using the application form.

I watched the GB News opener last night, and a little bit earlier today. If this is the sort of "news" "coverage" that people on the right have been yearning for, that they think is airing the views that they believe everyone, or the "silent majority" have, then no wonder they think current mainstream media is all leftist and wokeist.

Basically gently caress all unfortunately :v: there were a few people out with hammers but I was mostly looking for just anything I could see, but aside from a lot of fresh divots and a tiny lump of what might have been plant stem I didn't find anything, seems pretty well picked over and the weed on everything makes it hard to spot on a lot of the shelf.

Also went to have a look for jet too but only found sea coal as far as I can tell, not that I would be much good at telling them apart.

My hope is GBN is taken entirely unseriously. That nobody goes on the show and if they do it's only to take the piss. That it has no viewership and within a year closes down. Andrew Neil will still get rehired by the BBC because they're worms, but hopefully the damage will have been done to his reputation.
