SniperWoreConverse posted:Whale fall also has a weird specific meaning like meteor fall, except it's when a whale dies and its body becomes a deep sea habitat until the abyssal creeps fully devour it and leave. is this the script for the next panel of tohru's elevator dialogue?

Reminder that its 10:40am, and Neet is loving dumbfounded that some people - like his supervisors - are up regularly at that hour.

I think in Japan a lot of places start work pretty late in the day on account of everyone having stayed late (like didn't they finish their group testing at 7pm?) so he actually is early being there at 10:40 whatever

Oh is that a part of that performative dedication work culture? Come in too early and no one can see you work hard?

I say break in the workplace during night time, stealthly work your rear end off avoiding cameras and leave before the first earlybird arrives. Get fired for not showing up and die unemployed, taking your secret to your grave, thats honor.

A story I heard second hand, either a friend of a friend or here on the forums, was of a westerner working in the Japanese or Taiwanese office of his company, and he would come in at the time he was supposed to, work steadily and get all his work done, and leave at a reasonable time. Meanwhile all his coworkers were staying until 7 or 8 until the boss left, a lot of that time spent shopping online or on their phones. Western guy later found out that everyone talked about him behind his back as a lazy employee who didn't take the job seriously.

Back in the day, when office binge drinking was much more common, Korean office workers would come in right when they were expected to, 8am or whatever, no matter how long they were out drinking with the boss the night before. However, the expectation was that you clock in, show your face, then go to the bathroom and sleep/recover in a toilet stall out of sight until lunch. They still do this, only less frequently because office bosses pushing you to drink is now (supposedly) frowned upon instead of actively encouraged.
