Like Atrocious said house ownership being a very class and race based thing was a major component in hamstringing any threats to that. i don't care what an obama advisor says. people get passed over for jobs by the boss's neighbor's grandkid's dog walker all the time, i only care when it has a negative impact on our country. i don't care what 'the other team' thinks. "oh, but the other party and their supporters will say 'blah blah blah'. nobody should govern based on potential twitter reactions. I fully agree that it's an easy/wise move to not do poo poo like hire your relatives. i just don't find it noteworthy if there's zero impact on america's well-being.

I'm not sure, even if they cared about the idea of placating and stabilizing a middle class, that they would decide its necessary to do anymore. There was a time a long time ago they had to put on a show of competing with socialist systems by giving people things, but I think everyone is pretty comfortable now in the incredible power of the security state, to rush full speed ahead to a brazil/india future, with no fear of anything resisting it. I think they're right, too.
