The whole "nuclear weapons are fake" conspiracy theory is still going around strong, although that more overlaps with the various Covid ones in that it's more actually "nuclear weapons are scary as gently caress and it'd be nice if they were fake and I was in control of a nice concrete certain life" than "Einstein bad Jewish mustache man". There's a strain of conservative "Einstein Was Wrong" writing going back several decades. I remember seeing it pop up from time to time in places like National Review. As near as I could figure it out, it was them being angry at the thought of physical laws being "relative" to one another and not fixed and concrete (when clearly, under God's law, everything is fixed and invariant) and looking for tendentious "proofs" that the whole thing is a put-up job by the Frankfurt School or some other nonsense (and often shading into antisemitism). Because if the physical laws of God's universe are all, like, relative and stuff, then that would mean the moral laws of the universe are similarly loosey-goosey, and then all of society collapses into godless hedonism.

Related to that: this afternoon on Book TV, I happened to catch part of a book talk from a couple of Catholic fundamentalists who were talking about Solzhenitsyn. The interviewer made a comment about - I poo poo you not - "the dictatorship of relativism", because if you think everything is relative, it's keeping you from seeing the truth. It was one of the dumbest things I had ever heard.

I'm bored so I'll look up what Conservapedia has to say about relativity (although as Guavanaut already posted, they hate relativity because they assume it contains moral relativity too).quote:The theory of relativity is defended with religious-like zeal, such that no college faculty tenure, Ph.D degree, or Nobel Prize is ever awarded to anyone who dares criticize the theory, as the example of denying a Nobel Prize to the most accomplished physicist of the 20th century, Robert Dicke, illustrates. quote:Perhaps the most famous website opposing relativity is this one, with its Counterexamples to Relativity page. The cornerstone item in that page involves the experimental measurements of the advance of the perihelion of Mercury that show a shift greater than predicted by Relativity, well beyond the margin of error. quote:Many scientists have indicated problems with the postulates of special relativity. Paul Davies, formerly of Macquarie University and now at the University of Arizona believes that the speed of light has changed over time. Since the speed of light is a constant speed 'c' this indicates problems with the theory light speed. On the "Theory of relativity" page there's also this part. quote:Some liberal politicians have extrapolated the theory of relativity to metaphorically justify their own political agendas. For example, Democratic President Barack Obama helped publish an article by liberal law professor Laurence Tribe to apply the relativistic concept of "curvature of space" to promote a broad legal right to abortion.[80] As of June 2008, over 170 law review articles have cited this liberal application of the theory of relativity to legal arguments.[81] Applications of the theory of relativity to change morality have also been common.[82] Moreover, there is an unmistakable effort to censor or ostracize criticism of relativity.[83] I don't think Andy wrote most of these pages, honestly aside from the sections I quoted they seem sorta objective about the subject and aren't completely written in a way that says "This is bullshit." On the "Counterexamples to relativity" page though, that's where it gets good. Off to a fantastic start with quote:The theory of relativity is disproved by numerous counterexamples, but is promoted by liberals who like its encouragement of relativism and its tendency to pull people away from the Bible.[note 1] Here is a list of 52 counterexamples: any one of them would show that the mathematical theory is incorrect: I obviously won't post all 52 of them but here's a few highlights. quote:"Quasars are disappearing" contrary to the theory of relativity, and astronomers simply "stopped looking" after finding more than ten examples of rapidly changing quasars that confound the theory with respect to black holes. quote:The Sun is a perfect sphere - "the solar flattening is ... too small to agree with that predicted from its surface rotation." quote:Despite wasting millions of taxpayer dollars searching for gravitational waves predicted by the theory, no direct observation of gravity waves has occurred.[19] Sound like global warming? Then, in classic liberal claptrap, the liberal media claimed that gravitational waves were discovered when in fact no such direct observation was made. quote:Atheistic science admits that "observations don't match predictions, because the objects farthest from each other in the known universe are so far apart that the time it would take to travel between them at the speed of light exceeds the age of the universe," and implausible theories are created to try to explain it. quote:The action-at-a-distance by Jesus, described in John 4:46-54, Matthew 15:28, and Matthew 27:51. quote:The inability of the theory to lead to other insights, contrary to every verified theory of physics. quote:Relativity requires that anything traveling at the speed of light must have mass zero, so it must have momentum zero. But the laws of electrodynamics require that light have nonzero momentum. quote:In Genesis 1:6-8, we are told that one of God's first creations was a firmament in the heavens. This likely refers to the creation of the luminiferous aether. quote:Despite a century of wasting billions of dollars in work on the theory, "No one knows how to solve completely the equations of general relativity that describe gravity; they are simply beyond current understanding." quote:Relativity breaks down if a solenoid is traveling at or near the speed of light. quote:The Pauli Exclusion principle states that no two electrons in a closed system can exist in the same quantum state and if one electron changes all others must compensate. As the universe is a closed system when one electron changes state so must all others, even if they are thousands of light years apart. quote:The 2014 findings of gravitational waves are actually just dust. quote:The theory of relativity violates Occam's razor by requiring multiple new, implausible assumptions, including an invariant speed of light, denial of action at a distance, denial of basic, well-proven principles of quantum mechanics, and insistence that all places in the universe be equivalent to each other. And of course, the best one, number 52: quote:Discontinuities in General Relativity are well-recognized.

What I find beautiful may be completely different than what you think is beautiful, so if you're "instructing" me on beauty, isn't that....propaganda? Indoctrination? If I understood her point correctly, it was a pretty revealing moment.
