Ytlaya posted:

This can have the sort of limited effect you describe, but that doesn't really change the fact that electoralism still doesn't work if your goal is to actually create a decent society and create material change for people.

So it can be a worthwhile thing while also not having any role in actually accomplishing the most meaningful left-wing goals. Which I think is an important distinction, because people have a tendency to view any positive thing as being part of a process towards greater positive things.
I think small elections absolutely can help toward materially changing things for people for the better. Like I said a few pages ago, the $15 minimum wage (which I have to stress is not enough, but is substantially more than what it is now) passed in my state barely, and is basically due to like three Bernie voters having won their primaries last September. One of them, a literal socialist, won by about 40 votes.

One of the big issues with the left is it has absolutely no power. Shen Long's original post was saying that power is essentially being left on the table in small elections, and is being claimed by chuds and liberals. Is winning those seats going to make much difference to progress toward socialism? Probably not, but it'll be at least minorly positive, which is better than doing nothing at all and letting liberals and chuds run everything. And along the way, I'm pretty sure you can mildly improve conditions for people who are suffering, so why not?

I am really skeptical of the "vote!" mindset too, and it's pretty clear that it's not enough to fix things. And I have to repeat that I know we're not going to be able to fix anything for quite a while now on the Federal level, and I know that most of the damage is coming from there (especially with climate change). But I also don't like ignoring certain opportunities or doing nothing.

So yeah, if you see an office that is being won repeatedly by some loving idiot, that no one pays attention to, you should probably put in a good faith and serious effort to claim it.

But now that they are openly refusing to kill the filibuster to do those things as well as Garland openly defending Trump in his legal issues its obvious that any remote iota of change is impossible now and things will stay the same until the eventual collapse or the next coup attempt succeeds

Favorite concert was probably a River City Rebels concert where some random guy climbed into the rafters and started swigging from a flask and security spent 20 minutes trying to get him down before they gave up and just left him up there. At some point towards the end he half fell half climbed his way down, probably because he had to piss.

this is really unfair and, frankly, speaks to an ignorance of the system.

It's also about being popular with the group of like six pedophiles and murderers that make up the big money donor base of the party, there's a couple black and Jewish ones in that group so you ignoring them is actually silencing PoC voices.
