In a memorable 2016 profile, the Wall Street Journal described the average workday and daily trading strategy of Nevada Public Employee Retirement System’s Chief Investment Officer Steve Edmundson: “Do as little as possible, usually nothing.”

“Steve Edmundson has no co-workers, rarely takes meetings and often eats leftovers at his desk,” the story read. “With that dynamic workday, the investment chief for the Nevada Public Employees’ Retirement System is out-earning pension funds that have hundreds on staff.”

Five years later, Edmundson may finally get a co-worker.

Does anyone have any good places to buy a half mask respirator, online or otherwise? A recommendation would be great too. A combination of the looming delta plague and it being 42°C and the annual wildfires has got me thinking I should finally get one.

Yeah now that masks have been normalized I'm definitely grabbing a proper one for wildfire season.

Also congrats folks, we're on the front page of Wikipedia today for our countries' coverups of systemic genocide! : (

I use this type of half-mask on some job-sites:

https://www.amazon.ca/Rugged-Comfor...dustrial&sr=1-1

It has a quick release at the front so you can easily flip it and the mask loosens enough to talk or stick something in your mouth, without having to take it off your head. There is one for closer to $20 if you don't want the quick release. That's medium size which fits the average person, women generally fit the small size on average, but you'll have to decide how big your face is yourself, haha. There are full face masks from 3m that are nice as well, but they are expensive and likely overkill for what you're talking about. In the first days of the plague I wore a half-mask into Superstore because there were no masks available, haha.

Use with these filters:

https://www.amazon.ca/3M-2097-Parti...00328IAO0&psc=1

That will get particulate and that smoke smell out of the air. Doesn't do anything for carbon monoxide, but there isn't a filter that is going to save you from CO.

I've been using that same one from the start and at this point most people don't bat an eye at it. At the very beginning I actually had lots of people working at the grocery and convenience stores asking about them, no doubt because they want all the protection they can get. It was definitely harder to find masks and replacement filters last year, but fortunately it seems like supply has been replenished so you don't have to go through industrial supply places to keep it in working order.

I keep the neck strap buckled and just take the head harness off when I'm outside so it hangs in front of my chest. Quick and easy to put on when going indoors while being out of the way when it's not on. Make sure to wipe it down with alcohol every so often; I haven't run into any issues but it does get damp in there and during the fitting class where I got the mask they said you should get in the habit of disinfecting it.

As a bonus if you live somewhere really cold you can rig it into a really awesome winter mask. No more damp cloth mushed against your face and freezing, and the exhaust is directed away from your face so it doesn't condense on your eyewear. The pocket of warm air right in front of your face makes breathing a lot easier too if you're doing activities.

Yeah, that's one of them. The quick release is worth $12 though, unless money is tight. It's the difference between quickly being able to move the mouth-piece aside to have a drink or say something unmuffled vs having to pull it off your head and then putting it back on and repositioning it. Granted I am usually wearing a hard-hat so taking that off is part of the pain.

Oooh interesting. It's not often you see a Section 11(g) discussion.

Genocide was demonstrably illegal for at least some of the time the schools had been operating, so the fact that the church was explicitly following the government's orders shouldn't be a defense...

Is there any kind of vaccine certificate implemented yet for proof of being fully vaccinated? My buddy from Australia got one, shiny official letterhead and everything.

Bit concerned I get stuck in bureaucratic limbo in case these things become mandatory for travel or whatever because I got one dose in Canada and one in the USA.

Manitoba has an app and you can request a physical cert. It's just a QR code with your name on it.

Status can be checked here: https://sharedhealthmb.ca/covid19/test-results/

I've had both mine show up but some people reported theirs hasn't been yet.

Maybe yours would too?

Yeah I'm going to agree on let's do both. We need action now to help indigenous communities, and we need to re-assess our Canadian identity. Which ranges from improving Canadian history education to removing symbols and celebrations of the colonialists that perpetrated this genocide, past and modern. COVID has shown us, as if it wasn't clear before, that people can in fact be that stupid; if historical figures are celebrated despite their flaws some people will use that to promote similar mistakes, and others will be duped into following them.
