If it's the Cherokee not the grand Cherokee, those things have been on the upswing price wise since like 2013ish. A good clean not rusty one will totally pull those prices. I wouldn't pay that, but others will.

Just had a week's vacation for the first time in forever since my wife's school was off for a week and we can't take a couple days here and there really like we used to. Started off by going up into the foothills to visit her parents, which was kind of a bust since it was 110 degrees even at 1800 ft so we could only sit inside and watch basic satellite TV. We took the boat out on the lake which was kinda nice, but then my FIL proceeded to get really mad at me when it was time to load it since apparently i'm a failson due to my inability to back up a boat trailer, judge whether the boat is on the trailer correctly or hear instructions barked at me over the noise of a 5.3L Ecotec, so that kinda put a damper on the weekend. We then proceeded to go camping up on the California coast, which was our first time camping together. I've done a lot of camping and backpacking as a kid and in scouts but not since like, 2007 or so and not car camping like here in the US. We got a bunch of gear - tent, sleeping pads, dutch oven and stuff and found a nice state park with good hiking and views. 3 nights, 2 people, 1 crosstrek packed to the gills. First time cooking with a dutch oven and it's a hoot. Made steak one night, chili and bread the second. Saw some coast where we got to see seals and a family of river otters My back was not happy for some reason, i woke up after the second night with all my core stabilizer muscles firing and couldn't get comfortable at all. Even worse, a bunch of frat bros showed up at the campsite next to us, complete with cornhole, beer bongs and beer poing playing lovely music. At 7:15 in the morning i did not really need to hear an argument from them over who was the biggest slut or "do you really believe that black lives matter bullshit". They also showed up with a Wrangler they had taken off the doors, roof and sides to look extra cool (on street tires none the less) but didn't cover it at night so, uh, enjoy that condensation. We bailed on that campsite and got a last-minute hotel up in Eureka so we could go look at redwoods My wife has been bitten by the camping bug and we're now trying to see what kind of tow vehicle / trailer we should get for more camping adventures. trouser chili posted:Facebook marketplace is hell. I don't get how craigslist tanked their market position either. I used to work for a classified ad site in sweden (yes, that one) and while we had always charged like, $2 for any old ad, when we started charging more for car ads the ad volume and quality actually increased due to this. We also pre-reviewed all ads so it went through human review which was also an element of success.

Try changing up your heat distribution on the dutch oven a bit- they work so much better with a 70:30 top:bottom heat ratio- So you want 70% of your heat on the top and 30% underneath. Helps stop poo poo burning on the bottom before the top is cooked. Also if you concentrate your heat around the edges of the top and leave the centre with less heat on it, you wont end up with a burnt spot on the top of your bread if it rises too high towards the bottom of the lid. I cook heaps in camp ovens (I use spun steel Bedourie ovens as they're lighter and dont shatter if you accidentally drop them or bounce them too much overlanding) but the principal is the same. Check out Harry Fisher at Fire To Fork for what you can really do in one of those things!

The pic with coals is for the steak, for the bread I did indeed do a 70:30 top:bottom distribution. Turned out pretty good. The main issue with the recipes we've seen is that they're for more than 2 people, and this is a 12" oven so i might look into getting a smaller one later.

Yeah found a car for my wife, tatty and needs a couple of things replacing/fixing but drives and shifts well. She's happy with it, I'll go scrapyarding for plastic bits and change the fluids when it's delivered. That's a stress off my mind. Then she wants to do a trial run of filling it with the camping gear to see whether we can do without the trailer next year, should be fun. Friend of mine lives in Washington, up in the mountains a stones there from Canadia, and she’s dying up there. Mid-hi 90s F, and no air conditioning, because she lives on a frocking mountain and has never needed it. But climate change is a myth, of course. No window/portable AC units to be found of course, because everyone else is in the same boat locally. I’m in Texas (Dallas area) where it’s maybe just touched 100, and humid as gently caress. Outs been raining off and on the last couple months. Meanwhile, the PNW is dry as a bone. Selling cars chat: finally got off my rear end and took the Kia Spectra5 to get the oil changed and the car washed/interior cleaned because I did t want to do any of those things, outside, myself. Maybe if I had room in the garage, but I don’t, so I paid someone to do it. Prepping to sell it. I bet it won’t make much difference in the current market, but I don’t like selling a dirty car if I can avoid it. I need to buff the headlights, too. Someone is probably going to get a deal. Fresh oil, decent shape, new timing belt, and half-decent fuel mileage (2.0L/5-speed). Kinda hate to sell it. It’s fun to drive, and I just *know* gas prices will go nuts right after I get rid of our most efficient vehicle, but something has to go.

Gas mileage is meh, but currently I have a 12 mile each way commute, *if* I go into the office. We also have the ‘03 Outback 3.0. Kia’s AC is OK, but only really gets going at moderate speeds. Never was fantastic. It’s been a great car though. Very reliable and cheap. I was helping out an aunt yesterday as her husband has had to go into care. They had some hard rubbish all packed up ready to be put out, so I moved it all for them. In one of the boxes was this cute old thing: I couldn't let it get thrown out, so took it home and put some batteries into it. Worked straight away, no fiddling needed. Gave the metal work a clean down with some metal polish and it has come up nicely. No cracks or chips in the plastic, and still has its leather case
