Have carlos as manager, was a bit like dating miley Cyrus / kylie / any super model. Seems like a great idea, you can’t turn the opportunity down, but let’s face it she’s not going to be happy for long in your 3 bed terrace in waivertree. Demanding more then you can offer and never giving out. Always looking over your shoulder for a better offer. After the dream turns into a nightmare, you relise you need a more down to earth woman, Tracy you knew at school, not as tasty but she happy with the lot, puts some effort into impressing you and mucks in with a bit of house work and regular bedroom antics. trying not to picture David Moyes while imagining this scenario.

I think part of that is just that print journalism is a dying medium and nobody in 2021 is reading newspaper articles to find out what happened in the foot There may not be a huge market for Sid Lowe doing his "riverrun, past Xabi and Iniesta" shtick and writing 2,000 words on eating an orange in Zaragoza, but it has more of a market than just saying that Barcelona won 5-0 again, which will literally just come up on a Google search without begging you to donate to the Guardian

My instinct when the last player was up and I saw it was a young black kid was the total certainty "he's going to self-sabotage" and everything about his body language and face seemed to settle in to fail and already (all ready to be) sad preemptively... It was so so different than the white older english goalie who we just saw pump himself up with those little jumps and 'i got this' face to make the previous incredible save. I'm a new watcher and very tuned in to the people aspects over the stats/scores/team-branding aspect and mostly got into it for watching hot guys lol ...so I pay attention to individual players, faces, drama, interpersonal stuff the same way I love reality TV. I was rooting for Italy (inter milan is my fave team) and could not even enjoy the win because I felt too much empathetic disgust/upsetness on behalf of the english goalie. He was robbed of an entire future that he set up perfectly. It's like flashback moments to men disappointing me in relationships in often totally unsurprising banal ways. I think the subconscious effects / self-fulfilling prophecy of social identity is more important than we want to discuss, and 'sports psychology' isn't going to those uncomfortable areas.

In the season before a tournament we should stage a penalty shootout after every Premier League match with the crowd encouraged to stay. Five penalties, all taken by English players. This is our league, we can make the rules. Replicate the process exactly. Get it sponsored, make it a 'thing', collect data, find out who the best penalty takers in England are in front of barracking fans and present them with an award at the end of the season. And who's the best penalty-stopping keeper for England in that competition environment? It might be Jordan Pickford but if, statistically, there is a specialist, consider subbing that player on with a minute to go of extra time. We need these shootouts at all international friendlies too.
