I know I don't need to explain this here, but a lump sum increasing in value in your brokerage account is the gold standard in "passive income". $63,000,000 will return an average of $12,000 per day in broad market investments.

But you know, that $0.25 a day is GUARANTEED. So it's got that going for it.

Haven't there been a ton of really scammy annuities throughout history playing on this exact mentality?

The counterpoint to that is some J. G. Wentworth fucker taking the annuity that some 18 year old just got for being hit by a bus, and then by 19 it'll all be gone from parties, everything except the crippling pain and inability to work.

There's also plenty of poor people finance where $100000 may as well be a bajillionty dollars, forget return on investments, so the idea of guaranteed income that they can very much use and not just lose to a scammer or something becomes attractive.

TBH I want to blame a lot of that on GRRM because at this point, I'm not sure if he's even planning on finishing the books. I want to say that the first seasons were so good because they had all that source material and when it dried up and they had to just make poo poo up (of course with GRRM but still), it was just.. clearly, not as good.

That's why the WoT adaptation is going to be so great. Right, guys? Right?

It's important not to overlook how aggressively they were phoning it in, and how incredibly badly the plot had devolved. Everyone knew just how bad it was going to be, and there was just so much more they could have done, easily. They had literal years, and Game of Thrones money, to pay for writers. It is ENTIRELY on them that they turned Euron Greyjoy from Eldritch Pirate Priest to Ugh Not This Guy Again.

They also convinced HBO to do a shortened season for the final season (but pay them the same) because they "didn't need the extra episodes" to finish the story and they had to leave to work on Star Wars (which they ended up leaving anyway).

I’d love to see who at HBO bought that BWM argument. The amount they saved on production costs was negligible compared to the absolute destruction of a franchise. Though I guess if the spin off is some huge hit they might still benefit.

You absolutely could have done it, the GRRM dark mary sue bullshit didn't drag down the rest and they were able to adapt it. Then we get "lol guess she's crazy, here come some bells time to burn it all down because the Horny Pirate one shotted you're dragon and you just watched your advisor get killed while you're both in bow range" followed by "welp guess John snow kills her, oh hey there's the other dragon seeing him holding her bleeding body alone in the room, guess I better melt down the throne of swords with my fire breath then spin fly off to the distance"

Then there's my favorite, "The Spider" Vaerys, spy master that has outlasted dynasties and known for being both subtle and patient, and not really interfering with the whole monstrously insane former king, blurting out "HEY WANNA DO A TREASON, JUST IN CASE???"

HBO literally shooting GoT in the head as it crosses the finish line and then beating the corpse with a prequel is pretty funny. I checked out pre final season but I still would have at least liked to see it end with some dignity.

For BWM I am still considering buying the boxset in 4k because some the earlier seasons are genuinely great tv and even the later seasons had some decent set pieces. Season 8 will gather dust.

I think the main advantage would be that individual digiyuans can be tracked on the way through the economy and so there would never be any privacy for anyone ever again

Yeah, some people consider "strong female character" to mean "intolerable Mary Sue."

Genuine Mary Sues are extremely rare creatures in any case because published self-insert fanfiction is usually the realm of white male authors whose author self-inserts have lots of sex(often with women notably younger than them).

My theory is basically these studios see a show become wildly popular and their reaction is "let's drag this show out and milk this baby for all it's worth" and then invariably after X years of this poo poo and not getting anywhere close to the end, they go "okay, we've been at this for X years now, interest is waning, let's wrap it up" and this just repeats ad nauseum for so, so many American TV shows. It's not so much a problem with the very episodic shows like L&O but when it comes to shows with large overarching plots, I feel like America just does them so, so poorly because they almost always approach it from the accounting side, not the creative side.
