Alternatively, if you are in NSW cheat the system like everyone else.

AZ is a extremely good vaccine that is almost as good as the mRNA's (which are a genuinely gamechanger in vaccine tech) so yes, get vaccinated with it. If you want to get a mRNA booster later - the evidence is suggesting AZ first / mRNA second is likely to be the best vaccination strategy possible. freebooter posted:Just in time for this study to hit the news lol AZ is showing evidence of the same.

I'm booked in for my AZ and my mum, who is AZ hesitant, now seems pretty pleased she'll be able to go get Pfizer... which I guess she will? Because the phases technically still exist, so if we're giving AZ out to the non-hesitant youngs, the Pfizer reserve go towards the more vulnerable categories? Pretty funny that the boomers basically whinged long enough and loud enough that they got what they wanted, yet again.

Yeah there doesn't seem to be anything to it, #libspill trends every second day (and you don't even need that many tweets to get something listed as trending nowadays) Can't see any motivation for the Libs to spill anyway. For the next few months there is just going to be growing frustration at the federal government over quarantine and vaccinations continually popping up as issues while we watch many other countries like the US and UK that were much harder hit return to some semblance of normality. No-one would want to take that poisoned chalice, and until this is all over no other agenda is getting through either, like Morrisons stalled religious freedom to discriminate legislation.

Anecdotally, and I do know that this is the extreme small minority - a family member got her AZ vaccine as she's under 60 back at the start of June. Cut to 12 days later and she's in ER with persistent abdominal pain (about 4 out of 10)- drs were going to send her home as her bloods were fine until her blood pressure and platelets suddenly crashed and they found she was bleeding internally. Emergency surgery and half her volume of blood transfused later, they discovered that her spleen had ruptured. She would have died if she wasn't at hospital when it happened. While recovering in ICU, gov announces that the age is now for Pfizer is now below 60, not 50, which specialists and drs have apparently been pushing for. 5 days after surgery and they discover a giant blood clot in the vein coming from her liver and test results came back positive to the vaccine induced blood clotting disorder. She spent 16 days in hospital and has just now been released, thankfully on the road to recovery. I'm pro vax and am fully pfizer vaxxed myself, but that poo poo was extremely distressing and devastating to go through. It will take a year before she's back to even 90-95% functional and now she is effectively immune compromised as the spleen is important with handling bacterial infections and it's probably shortened her lifespan when she wasn't contraindicated to not get AZ in the first place. My advice is that if you go ahead and get the AZ vaccine (as the government is pushing, but health officials are not), and experience any of the symptoms such as persistent abdominal pain, turn up to ER and stand your ground to get bloods and scans done to confidently rule it out.

I remember a good story about vaccine reluctance from a paediatrician I can't remember the name of, it was on an episode of TWIV. They had a newborn in for her shots, and the li'l dude started having a seizure. They managed to stabilise her but the fits never subsided and she died from them a couple months later It would be a loving insane leap for that mother to ever trust a vaccine, and not feel deeply passionate about vaccine dangers for the rest of her life. Except it happened while the nurse was preparing the dose. Had it been a minute later you'd expect that lady to throw a Molotov through a pharmacy company window The Peccadillo fucked around with this message at 09:54 on Jun 29, 2021 |

Yeah my brother is a doctor in the UK and he advised me against the AZ vaccine just at the moment in a controlled covid environment like Australia at the moment - he'd just had a 30 year old female patient die from clotting. I was eligible for the mrna in the end and have been fully vaccinated but I was quite comfortably booked in for getting the AZ which most of my family over there had been given without incident. Were both strong vaccine advocates but he was sufficient concerned to recommend holding off given the low covid context of Australia a couple of months ago.

Let's not forget that the CDC paused J&J covid vaccines due to clotting and that it also happens to a number of women who take things like the pill, but that's hardly ever reported on for whatever reason.

Personally I’m going to go with the medical advice that AZ shouldn’t be taken for my age group unless I have heightened vulnerability or exposure to COVID, instead of the panicked policy on the run from the prime minister of sydney In my view the change in availability is a completely transparent attempt to shed blame. Whenever under 60s get complications from AZ they’ll point to Hunt’s statement and said that we maintained Pfizer was the right vaccine for them, but those people made their own choice to get vaccinated with AZ, I don’t hold a syringe mate. When the vaccine rollout continues at a glacial pace they’ll say “we’ve opened up AZ to whoever wants it, the stocks are there, but we’re not about to force people to be vaccinated. We’ve done all we can to provide the fastest rollout possible for Australia” Solemn Sloth fucked around with this message at 12:12 on Jun 29, 2021 |
