I have never seen that sort of warehouse shelving with all of the safing pins in place. 80% is pretty good, to be honest.

Last place I worked had a collapse in an unused warehouse where probably eight to ten thousand pulp samples (powdered rock, 0.5-1kg each) had caused a shelf to collapse, knocking over the shelf in front of it. I needed a sample from there once, and asked about who has the key to it. "Oh we can't go in there anymore, some shelves have collapsed and it's off limits. It's scheduled to be cleaned up once jobs A through M are done", jobs A through M being jobs that are needed to be done continually and almost certainly won't ever be finished.

Speaking of gold mines, the Granites mine in the Tanami Desert has had a positive case of the Spicy Cough and upwards of 900 FIFO workers have had to be tested and isolated, with 750 people still at the mine going into iso as well. Absolute cursed scenario.

That is sad. Sadly, to make an actual multi-legged walking vehicle you can't really do delicate spindly legs like that. The effect is a lot more tank-like. See:

the past 5-10 years of robotics (like boston dynamics) has been working on creating these robots that can determine how to move itself towards a location or in a direction without falling over. the only human input is where to move and the bot can figure out where to place each leg to keep itself balanced.

i've never seen that demonstrated on something this big so it had me excited for a second :(

If it makes you feel any better, I believe it's from a series of videos in which the robots have enough and start fighting back successfully.

Memento posted:

80% safety on something that could kill people isn't good enough, when the effort required to make it 100% is so low and really only requires giving the slightest of marginal fucks. Note that we average about one and a half customers injured enough to need the ER, per year, and about six employee injuries requiring the ER per year, excepting, of course, the ones the fuckers don't tell me about and which I don't manage to discover on my own.

So this is a somewhat unsafe place, is what I'm saying. Accidents happen on both sides of the fence and sooner or later it'll be a bad one.

Because "bulletproof glass" sounds badass, and feeling badass is a subconscious motivation behind almost all consumer truck purchases.

Also, those are definitely real Boston Dynamics videos. Here are the parody ones:

(And here's the behind-the scenes video where they talk about what a pain in the rear end it was to make the fake videos...)

Because idiots think it's cool. I saw a twitch streamer talking about how, instead of getting a real vehicle that exists, he wants a cybertruck because it's bulletproof and it's cool to have a bulletproof car.
