I've long thought the borg and the federation both hosed up real bad. If the borg showed up and were all "we would like to open up cultural exchange and trade" the Federation is practically obligated to agree. At which point the borg say the want to voluntarily recruit new members to the collective, and again the Federation has no ground to forbid individual citizens from getting assimilated if they want to. And some would want to. Far more efficient way to capture the federation's technological and biological uniqueness without waste.

diplomacy is slow and the borg don't need to conquer or exterminate. mostly they can just do smash and grabs and that's one more biological and technological distinctiveness added to their own.

then there's first contact, but that poo poo never made sense.

Voyager had some really cool moments when it came to Seven glorifying the Borg and wanting to go back, and in Unimatrix Zero, when the Borg Queen is talking to the kid about how scary it was being assimilated at first, but then she talks about how wonderful being unified is, it was legit fascinating to imagine there being upsides to it.

Unfortunately Voyager

It would be slow, but it would be efficient. A single cube, or less, could run voluntary trickle assimilation for 20 years and get everything they got during the run of TNG, but with no losses at all.

They could even do catch and release tourism where they partially assimilate someone and then let them go after a couple weeks. The borg get to download their memories, and and the human has a great story to wow everyone at papa Sisko's diner. Win/win.

Change that to PornHub and I'd sign up. Our ultimate goal would not be to assimilate Picard, but Riker instead.

I think the Borg Queen is the reason that they never bothered to assimilate the Kazon. Once they realized what a massive idiot their queen was the rest of the collective got much more selective over who they assimilated.

Oh hi, just a little behind on my watching schedule. Wimbledon has been taking my attention. I was able to watch three to make up for it.

Today it was loud as a whisper, schizoid men, and unnatural selection.

-loud as a whisper was really cool, but ive had some amazing experiences with sign and the hearing impaired. I liked the concept of the chorus. It was very greek. I also appreciated rivas understanding of his flaws with Trois help. The death graphics were lol. Reminded me of mars attacks.

-schizoid man was great, since it gave spiner more to work with. As much as patrick stewart is amazing, spiner is really just so good at this and i cant help but admire it every time he breaks the mold. The scene with the beard had me belly laughing. Also, love the 2d ira graves in the casket was laughable.

-unnatural selection was fantastic and made me turn around on pulaski as she is more frank and tenacious with her goals as a medical researcher. I will say i thought the ending was cheap and felt pulaski would have died honorably. But hey, transporter science saves the day.

Overall, enjoying the ride so far. Everything is feeling more focused and conclusive.

I laugh all the time during ‘Unnatural Selection’ because Pulaski was a dumbass who took the most minor precautions with a deadly virus, so of course she almost died and they had to deus ex machina in a solution at the last minute

so apart of the doctor, is the holodeck stuff only allowed in the holodeck room so that they don't have to scrub human secretions from every room?

If they did that then what would O'Brien have to keep himself busy with when nobody needs the transporter

so i've just started my nth rewatch of ds9 just so netflix will stop telling me to watch it, and there's an establishing shot matte painting of bajor and a light that i assume represents some form of land vehicle zips across the distant landscape and it sorta made me wonder what a bajoran car looks like.

all they ever show of bajor implies it's all monasteries and farmers living in early renaissance countryside hamlets, but for all we know they could be bigtime hot rodders and the reason the federation doesn't supply them with more soil reclamators is because they just end up nitromethane burning supercharged monsters doing tractor pulls at the rakantha province supernationals

Canonically Seven, at a grand total of one off the top of my head (It was Chakotay, for those wondering).

You can probably infer some random crewmember's got a program where they can rail, or be railed by, the senior staff in absolutely disgusting ways though. Nevermind whatever Riker's done there.

On the same topic, I've just realized the true act of depravity that would come from a holodeck and all those holoprojectors Starfleet crew have in their quarters; Holographic Memes.
