Edit: on it's face there's nothing really wrong with requiring an ID to vote. It only becomes an issue when you take into account the context of how IDs are handled in the US and the disparate impact out has on the poor. If you implemented a national ID than it completely disarms that suppression tactic because everyone can get one trivially. So if you can do that who gives a gently caress if the GOP wants ID laws. If done right you could play this issue against them.
