That live show was amazing. I think Anthony was about to straight up murder Will at one point (and Will about to murder Beth at a different one). I've stayed up entirely too late, but it was totally worth it. Also I loved everyone in the discord that had never heard the Rock's Rock album and went from 0 to Beth's verse in The Rock Cycle and then Cummingtonite.

I love how many times they've done the jezzball thing, it makes me laugh every time. Will should have never told anthony that he hates it, that was where he went wrong

Can you get an Oscar for a podcast? I had to pull over for a minute and get myself back together.

I had it spoiled for me a little, mostly just people saying that the ending gets sad enough that Anthony breaks, so I knew emotionally what was I was getting into. It still choked me up a bit. I'm a little glad I got distracted and missed the live listen last night. I think everyone reacting like that would have made me start crying too.

I wonder if he pulled any of those moments from his own life; he seemed affected by them in a pretty personal way.

yea I don't know poo poo about his personal life (the, uh, the parts that weren't dragged out during that whole crazy period ages ago) but he's either a really good actor or was at least in some way touching on something he had pretty major empathy for. Like, I'd fully believe 'no he's just really good at setting a scene and as a functional human being describing a parade of tragedy and abuse for a child just kinda got to him' but man when he got choked up that hit hard.

I finally caught up to early parts of the thread! I’m on 56 now but couldn’t resist going back to old posts DoombatINC posted:"Who's this chode?!?!" I had to relisten to that a couple times, it was so perfectly done!! Amazing So that’s what it looks like! Never heard of it Just Chamber posted:Omg Beth's voice I loved the talking dad where she first has the invisilign in, the whole episode was so good because of it. Especially the end when she said that when they start recording together again she’s going to hug everyone and they’re just going to have to work with her on it even though it’ll be awkward Pennsylvanian posted:Yeah, that was when I had to pause it at work because I was holding back a burst of laughter. For me it was a talking dad moment when they were asked about what the dads would do if they found their son’s porn. Ron’s approach of trying to casually make references like “that pta meeting was a real cumshot compliation” or “that teacher sure was a creampie” oh god that poo poo had me laughing hard in a room full of people at work.

Yeah I don't usually cry at d&d podcasts (a strange sentence to type, but the opportunity has come up several times now in my life so I know how I react) but you usually don't hear the DM breaking at their own story; that caught me off guard and got me a little misty eyed. And of course anything dog-related is just a sucker punch, feelingswise (at least he didn't kill it)

I'm glad that Anthony didn't go down that route, I think he and Beth hit that deep moment of sadness without having to go all-in on the despair of losing a pet, there was still some hope. I also think it would be awesome if somewhere down the line, somebody dad-facts up them visiting a relative and seeing they had a new dog with a weird name that gets along very well with their kids.

Matt's character reacting to Will's getting her family threatened if she didn't turn over the crew to the empire with just completely deadpan and instant 'wow...sorry about your family' is legit one of the best comedic moments the podcast has had.

Glass Cannon Podcast has almost 300 episodes, but you are listening to 5 dudes in their 40s from New York, so it's a little more bro-ish, although Matthew is usually keeping them in check. The DM can be a bit much in antagonizing the players, but I fully believe he is fudging numbers behind the scenes to only be a LITTLE brutal. Characters do die, but they're all good at weaving a narrative that has new character introductions make sense. I listened to their Starfinder campaign a bit, but their DM does cross the line of antagonizing their new player for me

There's also of course The Adventure Zone, but I assume anyone in this thread has already given it a shot. Their most recent campaign feels like it's going back to basics with just some improvised interactions, so that's nice. I started to try listening to Dragon Friends and while it's very funny, the audio is not great for working on a factory floor. I definitely think that the fact that DADDPOD's audio is good quality right off the bat and edited for time make it the most accessible actual play I've heard.

Given Anthony's warning about not pulling punches for the final act, I'm starting to get worried about Ron, because Beth famously and self-admittedly has no interest in learning how to actually play D&D (no disrespect to this attitude, it's not always the most fun game to play, mechanically) I also noticed that Anthony was tweeting about actually reading through the D&D manuals lately, and now I guess we know why

Then it going to 'hey a bunch of Jinns' 'you can't call us that *reduce person*' had me literally in tears laughing

Glenn is probably my least favorite of the Daddies (not that any of them aren't great), but Freddie is by far top of my list for the group dynamic as a whole. He and Beth are easily the most chaotic forces in the group and it always pays off so well.
