The lights went out right after QT started bleeding in the strap match. JR even remarked that his face was becoming a "crimson mask" immediately before it happened. It's clear to me now that the demons in QT Marshall's blood were released into the air at that moment, causing the creation / summoning / awakening of Malakai Black.

Proud and powerful, SSB, Best friends, Lucha Bros, all great teams to beat the young bucks. I like that both Lucha Bros and SSB are reasonably likely (though AEW have notably not had SSB teaming on Dark to get a good record). Malachai is goofy (when did Excalibur chat with him to learn the lore?), but hey if that's his new name, gotta get it over. Christian being the roadblock for Kenny then Hangman gets the big shot I'm totally ready for. Plotlines get people over and I'm 200% invested in the anxious millennial cowboy and his supportive cult friends.
