ZZ for short

It’s legit good that people are being introduced to thorsby comics. Again, anybody who liked the passion, lies, and fungus part of the comic I would highly recommend the lies, sisters and wives comic. Very similar energies except this one is set in a self contained short story.

I started reading this thread because I saw a few gamer dilbert comics and liked them. Figured out that I could get my fix by seeing them posted here. Like heck am I going to scroll through Twitter to get my webcomic fix. I’m all in favor of full runs of comics being posted here a few per day so that we can all commentate on them together. If you don’t like it just scroll past, or worst case scenario, put the user on ignore like a handful of people have done with me.

I legitimately went from hating PFSC to loving it because of this thread. I don't read a lot of BSS, but following Trixie Slaughteraxe with the thread there was also a lot of fun. Occasionally there would be some wild-rear end speculation that would end up right.

Please start posting Whomp again, I just got back into that comic and haven't read the rough early ones in a long time.

Yeah, H G Wells already worked that one out in 1896. His invisible man was just a pair of retinas floating along at about head level. Oddly, Ralph Ellison never mentioned the point.

Posting PFSC is okay because it is done in non-obnoxious quantity and some of the time it's not awful. Also it's disappeared off the internet.
Gamer Dilbert, Powerup and abbeycourt manor are otherwise only available via twitter, aren't running perpetually and have also been decent. Okay to post.

I basically agree with this.

I know there are, elsewhere, at least two other threads for posting comics: the newspaper comics thread (which I read and post in every day) and the webcomics thread (which I have not so much as looked at in years). They're also both in very disparate parts of the forum in terms of community and moderation, although there is poster overlap.

I don't like timg in a comics thread because scrolling past something I don't care about is, for me, easier than having to click and enlarge something I do care about, especially on mobile, where too long a touch opens the image up in (99% of the time) a loving imgur browser tab.

Pretty much everything is OK to post but I have put my foot down about Moon over June. Absolutely not. That said, I don't think big dumps are useful, even for comics that are / have been long-running. The newspaper comics thread largely has each comic posted once a day, twice if someone is playing catch-up. That gives the comics, and the conversation around them, a lot of breathing space. If you want to binge-read something and not discuss it, I'm sure people will be happy to point you in the right direction to do so!

Let's say you're not a Whomp superfan but there's one installment you really like. Cool, post it. Let's say you are a Whomp superfan and want to repost the whole comic here from its start. Also cool, but limit yourself to posting two strips a day or so.

The PYF comics thread has its own culture and it's one that I (and I think pretty much everyone here) has come to like, but we've gone from "ha ha what if I posted all of X" to "oh lord, he's actually posting all of X", and so I think the above guideline allows for a middle-ground.

I ignored the very first post because it was when everyone was posting the first comics of thread favorites/"favorites" but I've been reading the others and now I'm too invested in seeing it all play out and finding out what the artist thought in retrospect

Ralph Ellison's invisible man is only invisible because he absorbs a lot of light which does not interfere with his retinas.

But yeah, HfD and Trixie are great.

I read this with concern, because I love thorsby and it sounds like a not great title.

I am both gay and a geneticist and I was pleasantly surprised. It's surprisingly genetics-literate. It's wrong, but not because of any particular misunderstanding on thorsbys part, in fact he's got a better grasp on basic population genetics than some of my first year students. It's only wrong because genetics of behavior is a lot more complicated than the punnet-square level logic he's using.

It -feels- offensive, but only because it's got that weirdly frank and forthright autist-logic style he has.

Overall, this could have been a lot worse. I would not have wanted to have learned that thorsby was a nazi today.

It's not a comic but for everyone who's new to Thorsby, I'd like to also recommend The Adventurer's Consumer Guide, a text adventure he made about being a writer for a magazine that reviews adventuring equipment. It's very fun and has the same sort of humor as Hitmen for Destiny.

(Yes, you can read every single page in that book)

speaking of shmorky, i used to have the entire "big ones" run from keenspot on my hd around 2000. i might even have burned it on a cdr, but last i checked i couldnt find it. tbh, its probably for the best.

I think the person posting HFD is saying "hey this is actually good in certain ways", I wasn't talking about it at all. I'm a fan of daily posts, even of "bad" comics, in that spirit.

Raine Dog and Moon over June were being posted in the spirit of "if we're posting bad comics you should be subjected to this". That's the distinction I wanted to draw.

SPACE FACE! SPACE FACE!

Pupkin's author was Chris Crosby's younger brother Bobby I think (the former being founder of Keenspot comic host) and they all were kind of strange? The latter was a poster here after some people were joke posting the comic and they'd always end their posts with "thank you for reading pupkin" and got banned a couple times I think. I seem to remember them talking up how successful their comics were and that they were being optioned for a movie deal but have no recollection about how that ended up.
