That Booster arc is wretched. People were already joking about his tendency for character assassination before that and then he poo poo that out on the page.

It probably helped it that it was the first time I'd read a comic with booster in, so all I knew was that he was a time travel guy.

That would do it. The arc was very bad if you knew anything about booster before that arc.

I only knew him from that episode of Justice League Unlimited and even I thought it seemed like character assassination.

What I disliked about that arc was not so much the Booster characterisation (it's off but okay, if your inciting incident needs him to be an idiot and you feel like you can tell an interesting story out of that, sure) but then that the alternate timeline is such bog-standard "what if no Batman?" AU fare.

Gotham is paralyzed by criminals and supervillains, there's an amoral Batman replacement who lives on the edge and shoots people with guns, and the rest of the DC universe is rendered powerless to help. I feel like by the time the comic rolls out Dick Grayson as The Gun Batman you're already yawning.

Extremely glad that the best DC book this week is the kids John Constantine book by Ryan North. That line of books has been solid, but a Hellblazer kids book is pretty inspired.

Cowboy Western, not swashbuckling "Western"

I like it. It's basically the Burnside costume which was perfect, and a few small tweaks.

A lot of King's support seems to come from people who read his comics and go "Well actually I've never read anything before with this character he turned into a War Criminal/Mass Murderer/Broken monster."

The dude can NOT write a character. He can only write a Tom King stories and the characters in them are props.

Heroes In Crisis was too bad to be worth the squeeze and Wally was almost certainly the most popular character he straight up hosed up. He'd done almost as bad with Booster but that was one arc in Batman for Batman fans who don't care about Booster and Wally fans had years of practicing being loudly and violently offended by DC in preparation for HiC.

A friend commented it's like they've decided Barbara is closer to thirty than twenty so they designed the costume around that and I think it works.

He's remarkably frank about that being his process.

On Heroes in Crisis

Tom King posted:

As I've said many times before, I don't pick the characters for my story; I give my plot to the editors and then the editors pick the characters for me. So I told them in the beginning, "this is what it's going to be — it's going to be about one hero who's made a mistake and it's going to be about the two heroes that get framed for that mistake." And they said, "okay, it's Booster, Harley, and Wally, those are the three characters."

On Strange Adventures

Tom King posted:

Mitch and I were going back and forth over what kind of story we wanted to tell," recalled King. "It was at the height of the Mueller investigation was going on, and I said 'I want to write a story about people lying to you.' Because I feel like a lot of people in government are lying to us and I want to write about the differences between lies and truth, and the seeking of truth. When we were looking for how to tell the story, Mitch came up with Adam Strange.

Or this entire interview about The Vision which boils down to "I kept pitching Winter Soldier ideas, they asked me to do the Vision, I wondered what would happen if Vision got married, eventually I found out he'd already been married so I worked that into my pitch and eventually figured out how else to factor the Vision's established character into the story I had written."

There's no real disability visibility here. But they walked that back a decade ago and there's no going back.

I believe that’s what they want. My best guess is that DC was contracted to make the crossover count to make it less of some cross promotional cash grab.

Will you ever find a non Fortinite comic reference this series? Of course not, but I’m obligated to say that Christos Gage is a good dude, and deserves his moment in the sun.

How do you get that from a title that had a run as Vertigo book written by Pete Mulligan.

Honestly I think King does better with lesser known properties but if you think him writing Human Target will lead to him making a Blue Beetle a mass murderer or whatnot I think your beef might be with the writer despite what he writes.
