But what I do
I do
because I like to do.

Been a lurker/ occasional casual poster for some 16 years in general. I've definitely lurked here and seen so many gorgeous vehicles.

My daily is just an 09 5 speed Yaris. Yellow for some reason. Nothing fancy. I'm working on a wheel bearing on it at the moment, but I bought an 87 s10 just in time for my Yaris to have some failures addressed.

It needs... some major love but the price was right and I could get started on what matters most, the appearance. I've always wanted a dumb truck I could beat to poo poo. The good news is that someone's done the latter to this for a number of years.

Holy poo poo. I owned a emerald green 1987 S-10 in 1993-1995, it was an absolute piece of junk and the iron duke 4cyl could barely propel it to 55 on the freeway if there was a 1% uphill grade.

It did look pretty cool in the heyday of the Minitruck, and I had a sweet black vinyl tonneau cover that really tied the look together and totally made it useless as a truck. Additionally, you will be killed in any sort of collision with anything, but it does have very little visible rust so... good luck!

You didn't rip out the heatercore tho, should be able to keep the windows clear surely? I guess keeping AC was out of the question with the engine swap.

I can't remember!!!!! Honestly I'd just be fitting the oem stuff back into it. I've been fighting with my cars ac system for far too long that I've ended up sending it to a specialist with a nuch of other work that I've put off doing myself.

I’ve done a thing. The used car market is insane as everyone knows so I sold my ‘19 Si for almost what I paid for it 2.5 years ago and bought this.

‘12 Abarth with 54k miles and a matching red interior. There is some paint damage on the panel above the windshield but i got them to take $500 off for that and I’ll just put vinyl wrap on it.

Definitely a silly raunchy raucous little car. It’s nowhere near as refined or feature-laden as the Si but the nearly 11 grand in the bank is nice, and I’m not sure the market will sustain these trade prices for much longer so it was time to pull the trigger if ever I was going to.

The white Si lasted two and a half years!! And my silver Si and S2000 are coming up on their two year anniversary as well.

Anyway, just more ridiculousness

Edit: no $1200 strollers for me in case anyone was wondering.

Bah you're cherry picking. List how many cars you've bought and sold in the last 6 months. :colbert:

I used to be really bad about it, 6 months or a year was about my limit before swapping. Then I got indifferent about cars. Most money I've ever had. :haw:

Last six months is just trading the blazer for the ranger and then the Abarth. You caught me on an off year. 😬

Lipstick Apathy
After living the car-free lifestyle ever so briefly, I was confronted with needing to move myself across the country for work. The market for moving and rentals in general now is even more hosed than the used car market so I decided to buy the largest vehicle possible and only move what I could fit inside. 10 year old trucks with 200,000 miles on them were asking $10,000 or more. I looked around for Suburbans and similar large SUVs and found very little that wasn't exceedingly overpriced and/or in terrible shape. Finally, I found this:

A 2013 Escalade ESV Platinum with 117K miles and good maintenance history. The ESV is the long-wheelbase Escalade based on the Suburban, the equivalent of the Yukon XL. It has a 403 horsepower 6.2 liter V8, seats 7, has 22" wheels, 3 televisions, weighs nearly 3 tons, gets 14 MPG combined, and is 223 inches (5.66 meters) long. You don't drive it as much as pilot it. It is shocking to me that someone paid almost $90,000 for this thing barely 8 years ago, but I got it for about $20K and hope to get most if not all of my money back after moving and buying something more reasonable.

Yeah I bought it immediately when I saw it listed. Similar model year Suburbans/Yukons were just as expensive if not more, or they were just completely trashed and asking close to $20K. I picked a bad time to move but what can you do.

Nice!

I happen to have a set of the "plus" wheels that are polished, if you (or any of the other brap-brap crew) are interested. My car has been upgraded to GSL-SE specs, so no longer has the 4x110mm hubs. I'm in North Texas. I'd let them go cheap, but shipping would probably be stupid.

hot cocoa on the couch
Dec 8, 2009

drat! Thanks for the offer, 4x110 is hard enough to find as it is let alone a nice set that was OEM, but I'm all the way in Ontario, Canada and I'm betting that the shipping would indeed be totally out to lunch. Not sure if you'd like to price it out but yeah theres probably someone closer that would be able to take them for a more sane price.

I was able to visit Mt. Evans when I was in Colorado in summer 2019 and can confirm that it is awesome. Even had some goats wander by our car on the way down. If you're up for a hike, the Silver Dollar Lake Trail is also awesome. Growing up in PA I'd never seen anything like it and it'll stick with me forever.

Fantastic pictures, dema.

Nice find! How has the special platinum edition leather held up? It seems like every platinum that I see for sale in that age/mileage/price range has ragged looking leather. Im trying to figure out if it is because it’s a “real” open grain leather and nobody knows how to take care of it or it just wears like that naturally.

Ive been looking for a replacement for our 2003 Suburban for about a year now but I’ve just been watching the prices go up like crazy. I want the 6.2 and the 6 speed so I’ve only been looking at 2013-2014 Escalade ESV’s and Yukon XL Denali’s for that almost bulletproof drivetrain combo.
