Centusin posted:Everyone here loves to refer to Sydney's spillover, keep in mind at many points in this pandemic, 50% of returned travellers in NSW hotel quarantine have been people travelling onto other states after returning internationally without anybody in NSW complaining about the Labor premiers abandoning returning Australians. Perhaps NSW quarantine would have never had any leaks at all had Labor premiers been willing to do their job and help reunite Australians with their families, without inventing imaginary evil migrant holidaymaker narratives. They knew about spread on the 19th/20th but sat on their hands because of laziness / hubris / not interfering with the budget. Had they taken action then lockdown would have finished by now.

Brisbane also just had a snap 4 day lock down that seems to have worked, and the mine sight in the NT also locked down straight away and shut down transmission. The solution is to not gently caress around, now Sydney is finding out.

It's possible to believe that other states should be taking more returned travellers and also that NSW's insistence on playing chicken with COVID puts itself and the rest of the country at heightened risk, cheers

idk about the other countries but i know things got worse in South Korea because they hosed up and decided to ease restrictions too much 'for the economy' when previously they'd been much stricter, and they've also struggled to get vaccine supplies too

77 today and “I will be shocked if it’s not 100+ tomorrow” Lots of commentary on the cost of lockdown, not much commentary on the enormous economic benefits if we just let the entire population of NSW die. Would put serious upward pressure on wage growth, downward pressure on house prices, and many estates would have no surviving benefactors so would be a real boon for the balance sheets of QLD, SA, VIC and ACT after figuring out partition of territories. Howard wanted Khaki Elections, hence East Timor (LOL sorry about ur offshore gas fields!) and the Global War on Terror (let’s check in with how Iraq and Afghanistan are going). Abbot told the party room under Turnbull that he would oppose any climate agreement because he wanted the issue alive to wedge Labor at the election. Luckily for the coalition we have short memories and some kind of masochism disorder.
