literally one of the funniest interactions I've had with friends' families was being a kid going out for dim sum with a Chinese friend's family and saying it was good, only for her mom without missing a beat to go 'of course you like it, you're fat, you know good food'. Like, drat, I couldn't even be offended because the old lady nailed it. What I'm saying is this is good and cool and more societies should accept it

When I was in China all the ladies would stop to stare at me and one of my traveling companions who understood enough Cantonese told me they were all talking about how unbelievably big I was. I took it as a compliment of course.
