Freudian slippers posted:Herb did the same thing he did in their last fight too, letting Conor blatantly steal the middle of the cage before the fight starts. He tells Conor to "Stay back, stay back", Conor takes two steps back and while Herb looks to see if Dustin is behind the black line, Conor just walks foreward and takes the center before Herb starts the fight. It's so loving blatant and Herb needs to hang it up. Yeah, wtf was this poo poo

The Pereira-Hall ref was pretty good, but unfortunately you don’t get assigned to the main event by being good

Rewatching the fight, if I understand correctly- At the end of Round 1, Conor cheated by pulling on Dustin's gloves (while herb let him do it), caused Dustin to step back to say something to Herb about it, who let Conor cheat more by standing them back up (????), which directly led to Conor exploding his loving ankle immediately after. Thus if Herb and Conor weren't cheating, there would have been a round 2. KARMA

evobatman posted:-Because he never used to leg kick before and don't have the years of experience and conditioning a regular leg kicker does, he inevitably fucks up something. Most likely his own leg. When talking about conditioning for your legs, it's mostly to do with nerves in the skin. Repeated microtrauma to the bone can make the surface denser, but not to a degree that would protect it from hitting a hard object. Freudian slippers posted:It showed that McGregor, with about 11 seconds remaining of the first, throws a straight body kick. Poirier keeps his guard up, but blocks/deflects it hard with his elbow. I saw that replay, but it doesn't seem like the shin hits Poirier's elbow or forearm. Still, Conor was throwing the rear kick so much that I'm not surprised it fractured off of one of the hits.

Conor was going to get knocked unconscious again in the second round if he had made it there, the first one to shoot/look to grapple "like a dusty bitch" was Conor and his vaunted boxing was the second best in the octagon. There's absolutely no need to see a fourth fight between these two. Conor is overmatched entirely.

Travis Fulton, the dude with over 300 fights, hung himself in jail apparently. B-league thread or whatever, I know I know. He was in for child porn so don't feel too bad about it.

Nierbo posted:McGregor stepped back and broke his own ankle. How is that a win for Poirier? Because he was injured and unable to continue to fight due to circumstances that occurred during the fight, so he automatically loses. If any fighter who was losing could just fall over and feign injury to nullify the contest to cheat his opponent of a victory, how do you think that would pan out for the sport?

Tai Tuivasas win and following antics were my highlight of the night. gently caress hardy. Good on Paint Can for surviving the punching bag experience. I'll watch his next fight. McGregor - Poirier was interesting, conor looked more like old conor, but without the calm collected approach. I think he may be cooked. Dustin did all the things he would want to do mostly. Herb playing company man to that degree is just ridiculous as was buffers emerald green jacket. McGregor trying really hard and snapping his own shin is just the perfect result.

It would hardly be the first time in combat sports history that a promotion lined an official's pocket for something, but I think if the UFC were in the habit of fixing refs, then a lot of fights would have gone differently at a lot of different times in UFC history.

In the same sense I think Herb's also has just lost it as a ref and seems to have the yips. Dude keeps making awful calls that swing between overly cautious and really foolish and lenient.

I was watching the post-fight presser and someone got Dana talking about Irene Aldana having a great performance, so much so that Dana ended up convincing himself to get Aldana a fight bonus. And then someone pointed out that she missed weight, which Dana said was completely unaware of. I hope he doesn't give her the bonus due to the missed weight cause I'm with the fighters that the penalty for missing weight should be more severe, especially considering how overwhelmingly the people that miss weight end up winning their fights.

The Automator posted:Nah Conor used to throw a good amount of kicks. I and many others figured he was going to have a kick heavy game plan in this fight, and there he was. His kicks looked pretty slick in the beginning of the round, but hilariously backfired on him. he usually throws wheelkicks and stomping side kicks to the knee, not the roundhouse thigh/calf kicks everyone usually. this is because he's southpaw and usually only fights orthodox fighters. the closed angle matchup with southpaw dustin really hosed with his usual game plan and distance so he was landing some of those kicks with the foot instead of the shin. the other person he had a lot of trouble with was nate (also southpaw). evobatman posted:-A fighter who has never used to leg kick loses because of the effect of leg kicks on him edit: oh yeah, he also has not really had to get used to roundhouse leg kicks because he mostly fights against orthodox fighters. he could get away with a long bladed stance, exposing the back of his legs because opponents would need to switch stance to kick there. crepeface fucked around with this message at 03:10 on Jul 12, 2021 |

Herb copped a lot of criticism for late stoppages, probably shouldn't have stopped the paint can fight when he did now. The conor grabbing the gloves thing I can kind of forgive a little because he probably would give him a warning between rounds. If you're watching to see if hes staying concious while being blasted with elbows you're probably not paying 100% attention to glove grab.
