Decca/London Phase 4 stuff is cool, there's a CD box set of all the Stokowski Phase 4 stuff that's really, really fun to listen to because it's all multi-miced and studio-manipulated and rescored, and basically everything you "shouldn't" do with classical recording.

That Rampal album sounds cool as poo poo. Discogs says it’s from 1967 although it had a repress in 1980.

:yeah:

I always look through the Japanese music section hoping for some city pop (and never have any luck), so this one caught my eye as a new arrival. The others are all usually either clean-cut men staring forlornly off in the distance or ladies dressed as geishas, so the Rampal cover art really stuck out to me!

Ha, they must have been very proud of that Phase 4 tech! The inner fold (whatever that's called, the gatefold thing) is paragraphs and paragraphs explaining it.

Japanese folk song albums are a dime a dozen (although I still love them), with a few that exceed the usual straight renditions and turn it in to cool stuff like jazz funk

Soran-bushi covers usually are always awesome, this got a reissue last year

Oh awesome, I hope they do. I have an OG Mass Romantic and an OG Letter from an Occupant 7" (one of my favorite songs of all time) but it would be nice to have a copy of Twin Cinema which I never bought for some reason.

Got my deepdiscount order of country and bluegrass, can't wait to hear the twangs. I have about 40 albums I still have to clean and listen to from my covid collection backlog, project for the weekend.

Also now I'm getting Garth Brooks articles on my Google feed.

I only see two July Record Store Day releases that I'm semi-interested in: reprints of As the Palaces Burn by Lamb of God and the Donna Summer reprint.

I think I'm buying up all the old used country/bluegrass records faster than my local place can stock them. :colbert:

:same: There's only two I'm interested in: Dutch Psych volume 2 and the Sweet rarities/demo cuts. Both are somewhat limited (yay artificial scarcity!) so I'm semi worried about being able to actually get them. Gonna have to set the old alarm and hope it doesn't rain Saturday.

2. Rudy de Anda - Espume
3. The Winston Brothers - Winston Theme
4. The Temptations - You Need Love Like I Do
5. Sleepy Brown - If You Want It
6. Kendrick Lamar - These Walls
7. Lukas Lollipop - Don't Hold On to Someone (Who Don't Love You)
8. Roy Roberts - You Move Me
9. Betty Wright - Sweet Lovin' Daddy
10. Spanky Wilson - Sunshine of Your Love
11. Melvin Van Peebles - A Birth Certificate Ain't Nothing But a Death Warrant Anyway
12. Marlena Shaw - Woman of the Ghetto (Live at Montreux)
13. Sam Taylor Jr. - Heaven on Their Minds
14. Prince - Condition of the Heart
15. John Barry - Midnight Cowboy

Haha. Just didn't fit in to that mix I guess. I still have 2 of the boxsets. One I am keeping and one is gonna be a funny gift someday. Some of you might recall I gave one away for my radio show thing a while ago. I was actually met with some open hostility on my social media from a couple of my friends. Straight up "gently caress Garth Brooks" comments. I told them they should enter to win so they could take it to the gun range.

It's extra lame because those indie labels were the ones keeping the pressing plants in business for the last 30 years.

Fellow inhabitants of the frozen wastes north of the 49th (:canada:): Does importing vinyl through the Discogs marketplace suck or is it relatively painless? Couple albums I want to get but I can't find anywhere other than on Discogs or via sketchy Russian eBay sellers.

There was so much of that stuff that I’m sure I missed records that people want just because I’m a dunce when it comes to club music. I could have grabbed a completely different 50 records and still come away with good stuff. I was passing up stuff that on any normal trip I would have bought for a dollar even if I didn’t really care about it, like Santana and stuff like that.
