Hell, knowing this market we will probably scream 2% tomorrow.

Anyone got any good plays today? Need something to watch other than my SPY calls bleeding.

If you sell at a loss and buy the same expiry/strike, yes.

All ice cream is now for all beings, no matter how many legs.

As long as you do not buy the same date and strike after taxes that you did before taxes a wash sale is impossible to gently caress you over.

If you are day trading and will not be holding long term you can ignore wash sales until it comes time for tax season. That is when you gently caress them up. A stock you were playing a bunch then decide to hold can turn into a future tax credit with wash sales (and if you were expecting to use it this year you can't you still have that stock open).

So if the expiration is before 1/1/22 it is 100% impossible to generate a wash sale that will actually do anything with options.

A wash sale just changes your cost basis it doesn't cost you anything (except which year you get the tax credit in which can cost you if you have a ton of losses there but you have a gambling problem with chasing losers if that's happening which is a bigger leak)

Well, something went haywire; basically, if you held this stock last year by a certain date, you received shares of ACMSY. I bought a handful around the time of this post, and got 5 shares, for some reason; people who held stock last year did not.

If you had bought Wayfair when it tanked in early 2020, and held until today, you would have gone up almost 900%. Which I partly did! I bought one W @ $69.40 on 2/27/2020, aaaand then sold one W @ $42.30 on 3/11/2020. Had I held onto that until late March of this year, I would have sold at ~$344 instead and avoided STCG cause it’d be over a year later.

My reaction to W falling should have been buy more W. I mean, I know nobody would have really seen COVID coming, but…

Ah well. Strange and risky.

If you want to play splits for a profit you should use a broker that doesn't charge for forced actions. I think there's a more popular one but Merrill doesn't charge if it is a forced action. I don't exactly like Merrill for any particular thing. I really wouldn't recommend opening an account there unless you have Bank of America as your primary savings (instant transfer is an extremely nice perk) they have some bullshit stuff but nothing that will cost you just "ERROR JETS is on the restricted share list and you can only close positions in JETS" why is it restricted? Oh they are still looking into it for volatility in 2020. When will this happen? NO idea? Okay then.

For general stuff it works fine, and they have decent software. You will run into a few plays you just can't do.

I'm 99% sure you are joking but if you are going to hold penny stock long term you should do it with a broker that doesn't charge to restructure. (almost all will if you have to request the restructure though).

I dumped eTrade after the third "you owe us $38 because we restructured your $20 in holdings"

Now I do penny stocks on fidelity because they don't charge poo poo. Down side is it takes like 6 days to settle sales.

hahaha my penny stock I had the most hope for just took a poo poo because of some stock dilution news or something, dumped it before panic spreads tomorrow. That's why penny stocks get their reputation I guess, the "sure things" are the ones to watch out for. Between that and AHT and other crap choices my balance is down 30% and I'm demoralized. Other than some leftover weed stocks and $goon I'm about ready to call it quits, try again when the overall market takes a dump.

I guess 6 months of stock school at $500/month tuition isn't the worse thing in the world, I certainly KNOW a lot more now. And hey, tax deduction!
