RBC posted:I lived in a place like that, except it was purpose built as a rental in 1880, and was used as a rental ever since. The basement was dirt, one of the (only) support beams had a huge crack going down the middle, there were two old kerosene tanks in the basement, there was literal rubble all over the basement floor from where the fieldstone was crumbling, and japanese knotweed was growing between the stones. I'll try not to turn this into old house chat. The huge crack in the beam might not have actually been an issue. It was common in homes of that era to install beams without drying them beforehand because they didn't have a practical way of doing it for something that big. This means the beam would dry in-place and drying wood shrinks and distorts leading to cracks known as 'checking'. In the vast majority of cases this is only a cosmetic issue and isn't a structural concern. I mean, the rest of it doesn't sound good though.

I love this video. I've never actually lived in one of these piece of poo poo new-build condos, but for a little while I did work in an office building equivalent in Toronto and it had all of the same problems, right down to the floors being scratched and the (lovely shiny laquered particle board) cabinets not sitting flush with each other but "ooh it's so pretty look at the LED strip lighting wow". These buildings are all gigantic scams. Also, them sending some guy up to sharpie over all the floor scratches is the funniest and most on-brand thing. Thanks for your money, dipshit, now watch us crayola your bargain-bin vinyl faux-wood tiles. Magic Hate Ball fucked around with this message at 17:00 on Jul 18, 2021 |

There is absolutely 0 reason why someone should be angry at you. People who somehow get higher "requirement" for vaccine should put in extra effort to find the right mix themselves. The vast majority of them are creating those "requirement" themselves by traveling.

Not to brag or anything but I was feeling less side effects from my second shot than the first one (which I only had a sore arm after) and am kind of wondering if I got a placebo or something. Most of my friends all had side effects (though I got Pfizer twice and they all had mix first and second shots)

Partner and I felt pretty wierd for about an hour and then felt fine aside from a sore arm (but less sore than first shot). Parents and partners parents both basically nothing after second shot. Friends same. The people I know who got mixed vaccines all felt v. sick from the moderna shot.

I can't tell anyone else to do this because lol politics is a dumpster fire, but I'm getting involved politically by organizing for and supporting left wing candidates with an expressly environmental and/or anticapitalist agenda. I feel like just giving up on the actual elected government is a cop out but I refuse to keep voting for Least Bad without making an attempt to improve the selection choices soooooooo

Somebody posted a tweet by Dimitri Lascaris yesterday and I saw he and some others are starting an ecosocialist action group of some sort. Might be most relevant if the Greens do turf their leader. I imagine they will get involved in the NDP as well though. I know that Radhika Desai knows a number of Manitoba NDP people. Looks like accepting members in August https://greenleft.ca/en/home/

It's honestly amazing how one little change can improve your whole day. Gyms are now open again in Ontario so I went this morning so I could start up my routine again. I did a fairly light set just to ease back into it but it felt so good to get up and go in the morning again. It doesn't help me forget how hosed our country is or how I'll never be able to afford a home before the environment collapse kills us, but I'm also not stewing over it in my room because I have nowhere to go. It's good for my health both mental and physical and I really, really hope we don't get hosed by a fourth wave caused by hesitancy to get the shot.

Ontario at least did really well for first shot compliance but second shot seems to be lagging. I cannot stress enough how much of my day is spent answering the phone for people shopping around looking specifically for Pfizer only. Our fully vaccinated population could hit a wall at the current pace and that just makes me angry. Doubly so when I see how eager young people are to get whatever is available despite constantly shouldering the blame by politicians and the media for the slowing vaccination rates and spread of the virus.

Speaks to the mindset of demographics. "Take what you can get" might as well be the mantra for the Under-40s. I got the Moderna and felt fine (albeit I almost got a heat stroke because it was thirty degrees and I'm paler than Andrew Scheer's glass of milk) so I don't know what the boomers' problem is. Nor do I really care because the fewer of those fuckers around the better. We're getting 7.1 million doses in this week. Maybe that will be enough to satisfy the old bastards. I'm glad Kenney won't implement a vaccine passport so my future freedom to travel relies on access to this loving broke rear end website that often redirects through telushealth.com when clicking internal links and has required 4 layers of identity validation that have each broken in their own unique way over the course of three weeks.
