I had a somewhat similar experience here in Vic back in 2020 where I had several ongoing gigs in the live performance industry which were utterly destroyed, and then a week ago I'd nearly lined up a new ongoing gig with a buddy whose production company had more work than they could handle which has now also dropped back down to zero.

I'm super lucky in that my rent & overheads are next to nix so I can live comfortably on JobSeeker payments but the entire industry was extremely hosed for a long time, especially since a huge number of them were independent contractors and weren't getting any support for months and months. The arts industry has been hosed over real bad this last year.

Yeah nah, this is some horseshit and you're right to complain.

Gotta love that the Federal government just turned off the tap on Jobkeeper type support, and we keep getting outbreaks.

If there's one bright spot in this outbreak, we look like we're gonna get a hard goofus-and-gallant outcome between NSW and Victoria that even Sky Media can't spin their way out of.

It's a bit hard to cry "BOOGA-BOOGA, LOCKDOWNS DON'T WORK" when you've got side-by-side proof from relatively-identical situations laid out plain to see.

I've never really bought into the parochialism of Sydney people being different to Melbourne people but holy poo poo. I've been out running on suburban trails and through parks in inner east Melbourne most days and haven't seen anything like this. Sometimes I see a group of kids sitting in a park which you're not supposed to do but other than that it's just people in ones or twos or with the kids doing the allowed exercise. Mostly masked unless running or cycling.

I signed up for the marathon in October which now means there will be a lockdown. Sorry in advance Melbourne.

That picture of Bondi is disturbing. I'm not in a locked down area (Newcastle/Hunter) and every time I've left the house in the last two weeks which admittedly hasn't been at all outside of getting food, exercise and taking lil bee to school, almost everyone has been wearing a mask, which is reassuring to see.

Meanwhile my friend down in the Northern Beaches who lives with her young kids and elderly mother has had to quit the casual gig she had as a house cleaner, because the other women she works with refuse to wear masks and are constantly talking about how the lockdown is a hoax and they're openly ignoring all health directives :(

It's a loving toilet that's overrun with rich english expats and other types of tourists. The beach sucks and is crowded, the mix of weirdo british druid hippies and affluent ~ beach comber ~ boomers leads to a culture of just the worst parts of this country slammed together competing for the four car parks and the one remaining spot on the beach.

An influencer, a real estate cokehead and a crystal shop owner walk into a bar. It burns down. That's the punchline.

Melbourne has posh suburbs and rich beachside places like Brighton but probably nothing like that. I'm pretty sure most of the Mornington Peninsula doesn't give a gently caress about restrictions though.

Bondi, as a beach is unpleasant even if it weren't pack of spruikers, brasilian tourists being insanely loud, the english and the cokehead locals.

The cruel joke is it's not actually the worst spot nearby. That's Clovelly. I didn't say "Clovelly Beach", as it is not a beach, it is a concrete pool with an open end and some sand.

Is that nude beach nearby still in full operation? Went there a few years ago with a chick I met at a concert and my god the dirty old men there were hilarious in their skeeviness. And the twink that drove a powerboat over and anchored up. He started posing on the bow trying to pickup but no one was having it, he left all sad lol.

I think thread consensus on why Bondi beach is popular is because its the closest beach to the city so easiest to get to for tourists.

even thats a stretch because there is no train to the beach.
