i'll take miley's version over the original, at the very least it's a fresh take on a song i've heard way too many times

she's trying to hetfield it up a little too much i think at parts but i enjoyed it more than i thought i would

That's the oddest supergroup lineup I've ever seen.

I want an instrumental with Yo-Yo ma playing the vocal melody, his two small parts just made me want more of it. Guess I'll go have to play Apocalyptica's take again.

Been a bit slim pickings for me on the black metal front for a while, but this, this is pushing my buttons.

Pretty stripped down atmoblack, not wholly unlike Pale Folklore era Agalloch, plus very prominent sad violins. Very much my poo poo.

20 years of Opeth's Blackwater Park.

Opeth became a pretty heavily played-out thing in the metal community where Opeth fans almost became as annoying as Tool fans (unfortunately, I am both). However I think it's worth acknowledging that era of Opeth (Still Life, Blackwater Park, Ghost Reveries) was pretty drat unique for it's time, and even today whenever a band does cool weird chords in metal, it can't help but feel a BIT Opeth-ish. They're a band with many imitators, but none of those imitators were able to take the Opeth thing and nail it like they did.

So hey! Cheers to a legit killer album (even though I prefer Still Life) which I would argue changed things in metal for a bit, and definitely put Opeth on the list of metal's legendary, but often hated bands.

ooh where did you get that? I have the Hell's Headbangers black one in my collection, but besides it being a bit dull it suffers from the major downside every Hell's Headbanger shirt has, namely the actual prints used being way too tiny. also, in band shirt chat, white tees rule and more bands should offer multiple colour options.

A few weeks ago, Sleep Token released the first track from their upcoming album "This Place Will Become Your Tomb"

It's called Alkaline
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uU5vVT_Cp7c

They are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. The members are anonymous, they wear masks while performing. Most of the tracks start out calm and quiet, but end up in a whole other place.

A good example of this is Higher:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhoSDCVb4n0

The vocalist is known as "Vessel". He has an incredible voice and range of sounds he can produce.

From heavy, in Gods:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFodog4zZlY

To clean, in a reworked version of their song Blood Sports
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdAOUSZLtuY

It's hard to call this last one metal, but the song has a very strong effect on me, so I had to include it. If you need any more convincing that the vocalist is awesome, look up the Hey Ya! cover (yes, *that* song)

Got it at an actual Sabbat gig in like 2009 or so when they were reunited and toured around. Good times.

i first found opeth around that time, and holy poo poo did it open a major door for me. i was mainly into thrash, and opeth was one of the first bands with growls that i started to get into, which exposed me to so much more metal

At least they're all in a row. I don't mind the long tracks but the placement in Book of Souls is so awkward that you just kind of forget entire sections of the album by the time you get to the end, in this instance you can kind of treat it like two halves of an album.

A friendly face.

I listened to this 3x today, recommend me all of the bands that sound like this https://sentientruin.bandcamp.com/album/desecration

quote:

Portuguese atmospheric raw black/death metal necromancers Concilium issue their tenebrous debut LP "Desecration", a churning spectral emanation of total and agonizing death exhaling at the edge of a decaying void. Like the bastard child of Portal, Beherit, and Black Cilice, "Desecration" levitates from pure darkness with a miasma of tortured lamentations, serpentine whispers and suffocated screams radiating from the innermost depths of torment, while an incessant outflow of sepulchral lo-fi raw black/death metal murk reverberates through the abandoned pits of buried temples and lost sepulchers materializing a truly unsettling and ominous aural nightmare. The band's masterful texturing of decaying and sulphureous black/death metal with subterranean aphotic atmospheres and a diseased sense of occult ritualism creates a lightless aural twilight that embraces the listener like a disembodied disease, giving away way to a blood-freezing (and at times even moving) out of body experience.
