On the other hand, Lulu may be our role model, our hero, and our paragon of virtue... but she is also dying for that first win, tremendously motivated to defeat Brookes in particular to prove her worth to him, and sufficiently win-brained that she is not above bending the rules to get there. How far might SHE go in a no-DQ format? (If Mino Pencil whips out the taser and zaps him, will she regret not accepting the freebie... or will her will weaken enough to try for it?)

That’s a bit of a bummer, but not exactly a huge surprise. I was always impressed at her skills and improvements the couple times she would pop up during school holidays, but it also seemed like this was very much just a side thing for her rather than a future career. Sucks that she won’t have a graduation show though.

Chris might be right that the "I Quit" match was the first ever tag "I Quit" match. There's actually a lot interesting booking decisions along the lines of "how united/equal is your tag team" that could be explored. I am very interested in how they choose to approach this for exactly that reason -- Brookes _is_ a complete mismatch for Lulu on every level. It should be and will be Lulu showing off impressive levels of ragdoll physics for the majority of the match, along with increasingly creative and desperate attempts at offense. We know what a feelgood blowoff ending to the feud could be, but it is up in the air whether or not they're going to give that to her.

It really is a surprisingly nuanced story for the Silly Joke Promotion. You can totally read Emi's actions as just like Chris was saying, keeping Lulu around and encouraging her buffoonery so there'd be someone worse than her as she refused to acknowledge or improve after losing in the AEW tournament. Or maybe he's just a dick.

Reading some of the lead up and reactions to the match in Japanese and it's interesting, to me at least, is that the build/reaction to Lulu Vs. Brookes in Japan seems to have centred on inter-gender wrestling far more than the English speaking audience.

If you told me we'd basically get that "CLIMB THE LADDER, KID! MAKE YOURSELF FAMOUS!" Jeff Hardy/Taker match out of a 6'5" monster and a tiny woman that looks like she's barely 100 lbs soaking wet and like 5'1" I would have called you nuts, doubly so if you'd have told me it took place in an office with a big pad on the floor. What helps here is how incredibly well Brookes sells for Lulu. He's somehow selling it without being cartoonish, and I can't exactly tell you how it works but by god it does. According to her own reported stats, she's 5'4" and 99 pounds. Obvious grain of salt involved in asking any woman, much less a wrestler, her precise weight. And, yes, Brookes was awesome in this. He was openly dismissive of her striking, as he should have been, until the one blow late in the match where Lulu was so focused that she actually staggered him slightly. The assorted foreign objects (powder, pencil, sliding door) gave him reasons to sell, which tied into his reduced ability near the end to just ragdoll her at will. His experience lets him walk Lulu through spots (like the DDT on the bare floor, again) that she wouldn't be able to try with most other opponents there. I read an Akki interview where he spoke of something similar, how he approaches a match against someone like Chie far differently than one against, say, Fujita. The challenge for him is to acknowledge the size difference, to weigh it appropriately, but to also suspend disbelief in ways that make his smaller opponent's offense credible.
