JIT will probably go down in history with Lamarckian evolution and phrenology as dead end ideas. We’ll have a period where robustness and redundancy become fetishes in corporate strategy. Haha no the purpose of every business is to juice the numbers enough to sell the whole shooting match to a bigger sucker. Producing occasionally useful products or services is merely an inconvenient side effect.

They’ll go to “JIT with buffers”, thesis will be written on how to optimize these buffers (basically just reapplying TOC calculations with the numbers filled off) and millions will be made in consulting.

I forgot they added another game to the season. Still baffling they’re sticking with putting games in London each year. I imagine it’s a Robert Moses situation where one guy who can’t be vetoed is obsessed with putting an expansion team there.

Does a bear split in the woods near Zheleznogorsk?
The league wants a team there, and in Mexico. They lose money on each individual game (at least in London, I don't know about Mexico City), but the tv ratings are really good and improving almost every year. Merch sales climb too, particularly for the Jaguars who are sort of like a home team since they're over there every year.

how to fix JIT: CEO salary is held in a mutual fund of the CEO's choosing but controlled by the company and paid out over a 10 year period. In case of bankruptcy it is the first asset to go. Stocks or other financial instrument part of a compensation package can't be sold for 10 years.

I mean I guess it could be that or it could be that their price had taken a dip earlier in the month that was overrepresentative of risk and the price recovered along with the rest of the market which is mostly up right now

My guess though based on a quick news search is that it has more to do with a strong quarterly earnings report with quarterly profit jumping 59% and the fact they announced to the world that they're looking to buy an additional $6 billion of their own stock back.

Stocks can be fucky, but "buy stock in industries making money and from companies who will pay you more" doesn't exactly read Lex Luthor. Am I missing something?

The majority of most ceo compensation packages is already company stock so I dont see what this would actually do. If you are the CEO of a company whose stock goes to 0 you are already working at a loss

I think it's attempting to stop CEO's from doing a lovely job and selling before the stock is worthless or selling out before something tanks the stock like a security issue. Also if I remember correctly, if a company goes under certain grades of stock get paid out before other debts get a cut, so really if a stock hits zero and a company goes in the shitter execs still get paid out.

Or just jack up the capital gains taxes and highest income tax brackets.

Most CEOs get paid in stock because the taxes are so much lower. CEOs weren’t paid that much more than their average worker back in the 50s/60s because it didn’t make sense to get 8 figures when 95% of it went to the IRS.

Pretty much SOP for the NFL really.

Is that because of the Secretary of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops?

It's a weird story - Monsignor Jeffrey Burrill, who is a decidedly chuddy Catholic Bishop and Secretary of the UCCB got outed earlier this week by a right-wing tradcath website as being on Grindr. I don't know how they found him specifically, but there's been some buzz in tradcath circles about basically doing open-source intelligence stuff to find gay priests.

On the one hand, Burrill is one of the "deny Biden Communion" crowd and so there's a certain angle of being hoist on his own petard here. On the other, this is probably going to feed the nascent witchhunt for gay priests that tradcaths are starting to organize.
