I missed the presser itself and am only seeing the comments being posted faster than I can read them. From what people are posting, it seems like they must have watched the NSW presser as well.

There's a lot of "lock down NSW fully" sentiment, but without much indication that people have thought through the implications of that for the other states.

Also a lot of concern that vaccine doses may be redirected from other states to NSW.

It's also massively disrupted supply chains, which is one of the reasons states have always allowed exemptions to their hard border lockdowns in the past.

Vaccines wouldn't be an issue had Scotty not totally screwed the pooch.

We need every past and present politician who commands an ounce of international respect working their networks so we can borrow enough doses to get us through the next few months.

Media reports this morning of people driving up to 70km for Pfizer, leaving no doses available for locals.

It's a measure of the extent to which covid is dominating Australian life at the moment no posts about the death of John Cornell have turned up on my social media.

poo poo that’s quite a drive. I’m lucky that the local medical center has it but only for patients of the practice. On top of that I could only get mine now because my partner is on the ndis and I’m her carer. Should have both doses done before I go back to teaching on site.

My grandson is doing year 11. I'll be shocked if there's any face to face teaching this term. They'll be lucky if they're back in class when they start year 12 next term.

Yeah that’s my feeling atm as well but the playbook from last year also had us head back in to teach before the rest of the workers had their lockdowns lifted.

70km is still well within the greater Sydney limit and people are allowed to leave their area for medical care, including covid vaccination. It's the centralised online booking poo poo which allows people to game the system.

Much of regional NSW would lose access to specialist care if distance limits were imposed on medical care. Covid has already had a negative impact on regional healthcare without introducing measures which would limit it further.

Whoever was on the fence about snitchin on their neighbours? Another tip / option

Just contact trace eg our next door unit gets MASSIVE increases in visitors whenever we have any locky d; after starting to track the cars it was clear it’s 3 sets / probs family.

Got the plates and if they disturb the cat they get logged / better than snitching and if the contact tracers need the information we have some rough idea of who’s been visiting; or at the least their car rego which can be used for more gathering

I actually doubt it tbh, because the Lib's would have to read the room to get as far as booting Gladys and "we have to live with COVID" is what she's been tacitly saying so far. If they want her gone, they know a lockdown's needed.

There was her secret relationship with disgraced MP Daryl Maguire, which led to her having to appear before ICAC.

There was the destruction of documents related to pork-barrelling.

There was the NSW Government paying 10 times the value of the land it acquired for the second airport.

No state or territory has excess vaccine. It's amazing we still have as much vaccine as we do when a month ago the prevailing attitude was that Australia should donate much of hours to developing nations because we were essentially covid-free.

Every state needs to hang onto whatever supplies it can utilise at the moment. We need to be looking outside Australia for additional doses - and it doesn't help that only two vaccines are currently approved for use here.

The Olympics are now a superspreader event.

COVID cases in Olympic bubble hit 110 before opening ceremony
Tokyo Olympics organisers reported a record number of new daily coronavirus infections linked to the games, bringing the total to 110 just hours before the opening ceremony is scheduled to start in a nearly empty stadium in Tokyo.

Nineteen new COVID-19 cases connected to the event were reported on Friday, the highest daily figure since organisers started disclosing the data this month. The tally included three athletes, one of whom is residing in the Olympic Village.

There are now 13 athletes among the 110 Olympic-accredited people that have tested positive in Japan since July 1.

If you're waiting for your second dose of Pfizer, you need to know about this

quote:

New South Wales will not receive any additional doses of the Pfizer vaccine, but the state will speed up the delivery of first doses, Prime Minister Scott Morrison says.

National Cabinet met today after New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she would ask state and territory leaders to share their Pfizer vaccines with the state, and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said he would push for a "ring of steel" around Sydney.

The other states rejected Ms Berejiklian's request for more supplies.

Instead, Mr Morrison said NSW would administer more first doses of Pfizer, by increasing the time between the two jabs from three to six weeks.

"We will be confirming over the next 24 hours, the ability for, in New South Wales, in their state vaccine centres, for them to do greater amounts of first doses by staying within the medical advice," he said.

"In the same way, we have had the flexibility to bring forward AstraZeneca's second doses."
