it's interesting that Steam rejected it, given that they do allow some adult content. I haven't paid much attention to porn games on steam; the stuff that makes VaM weird and interesting is the community driven nature of it and the fact that it's not a game and you can barely even call it a framework for making games.

I didn't know they attempted to get on Steam. I am convinced it would have been on the top seller's list, easy. While VR is the 'proper' way to use the software it isn't required.

The porn games on Steam are explicit, so I'd have to assume it's the modding potential as for why it was rejected. When you can make a 1:1 celebrity, porn star or neighbor to have your way with them with no permission of any kind required I can see even Valve shying away from that. Like deep fakes on lightspeed steroids.

Huh, I have VRchat on my steam library from when it first released, but I didn't have a headset at that point. I just nabbed it while it was free because a friend was telling me about the dude running around VR with an entire model that was a log cabin with an interior, and he would just find people and stand near them to freak them out

Thanks for the tips. I tried three games dirt rally 2.0, new retro arcade and strike suit zero and non of them seemed to recognize my touch controllers. Not sure if it’s just lovely vr implementation or vr in general.

I know that Dirt Rally 2 at least doesn't use VR controllers are all. A lot of driving/flying sim games (stuff like dirt rally, elite dangerous, star wars squadrons etc.) have VR support but it's basically just a different way of viewing the game, the controls and controllers that you can use are identical to the flatscreen version of the game. This is generally because those games are expecting you to be using a steering wheel or joystick type controller and doing all the inputs on them, the implementation of using a VR controller as a virtual joystick usually tends to be pretty bad imo (looking at you NMS).

I have a friend who DJs in VRChat so I've been to a few of their shows and honestly kinda diggin' the VR rave scene. I'm also in a VR Fitness group that meets twice a week to get swole.

Yeah i dunno what they were thinking with NMS, feels very weird to stand in place and jiggle around an imaginary joystick. On foot planet exploration with vr controllers is a blast though.

That still happens. "People get horny in VRChat" isn't really a thing that happens in every public world like you're thinking. Places like The Great Pug and Black Cat are still great places to chill and see some amazingly weird poo poo go by.

Hands-down the most impressive avatar I've seen on a technical level is someone turned the entire Half-Life tram ride into an avatar. They use a portal shader so from the outside it looks like just the tram, but from the inside you experience the entire introduction to Half-Life, sounds and all including the loading screen pauses. It's amazing.

Gotta be honest I've never encountered anyone having sex and I just hit trusted rank (that takes a lot of hours lmao). A lot of worlds are pretty disappointing so I started making my own. I've spent the last 9 months learning Unity and Blender and I'm having a real good time of it.

If you want some other fun worlds to check out I can recommend:

- Laughing Lizard Land (huge file but worth it)
- Putt Putt Pond
- 77077 Arcade & Bar
- Lustful's Full Body Creatures (dinos and other monster avatars)
- Treasure Hunt Island
- Test Pilots
- Seattle Circuit
- Battle Discs Arena
- Tonbo Battlefield
- Tunnel Music Visualizer

Finally played an actual round of Phasmophobia with a friend. gently caress. Our ghost was apparently a phantom. It came for me and I was instructed to run, but nobody mentions that the front door locks during that? So I’m desperately scrabbling at the door trying to open it while my buddy on the outside stares in at me in horror and then I hear something coming up behind me and I ripped my headset off and waited it out, and based on what I’m told I would have seen, I’m so glad I did. Fuuuuuck.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1408230/Walkabout_Mini_Golf_VR/

The physics, course design, multiplayer, its all fantastic. The graphics are simple but look nice and it means performance is excellent across the board. I played it with 2 Quests, a Quest 2 and a Lenovo Explorer and had an absolute blast. Make sure you have a battery pack handy for your Quest if you want to play more than one round at a time, though.

Yeah I’m 0/3 with having a good experience with pc be games. Whether it’s the crappy controls or constantly losing connection to link I’m not sure what the deal is but I’d really like to try out hl alyx to see if it’s even worth keeping the headset. I just don’t want to drop 60 bucks and it’s not even worth it.

I did try out the super hot and beat saber demos. I didn’t really like super hot but bead saber was kind of cool. It enough to make me wanna keep the headset though. If anyone has any other demos I could try I’m all ears.

A lot of it is the 3 games you tried were not exactly... great examples of VR motion controller use.

If you want some fun stuff you can jump right into as a jumping off point with VR on PC, HL Alyx is of course a good one. I'd also check out Lone Echo as its currently on sale for a bargain price of $10. Pavlov is another easy to jump into gun game, and on the more arcadey side Robo Recall is a frantic arcade shooter.

The demo of "eye of the temple" is free, and a great use of VR roomscale and is currently only on PC. The Lab demo by valve is very old at this point, but its still a good beginner VR experience to show off some of what VR can do. Gorn/blade and sorcery are basically melee arena sandboxes that are quite simple to get in to. Beat Saber is a go to for a lot of people and is probably something worth checking out to see how you feel about it.

Any of those, along with tons of others I didn't even get around to listing, would be better experiences for you to try to see the capabilities of VR over what you have so far with Dirt/new retro arcade (also as a side note if you like the idea of old emulation in VR, take a look into EmuVR. you currently have to download it through the discord, but its a really cool VR emulator of classic systems, currently getting updates constantly, and better maintained than new retro arcade which is kinda dead, though its focus is on home consoles as opposed to arcade stuff)

Is there anything required to move a CV1 to a new account? Now that I have the VapeRift (assuming it tests out ok) I think I might gift my CV1 to a friend who is really into rhythm games and would love beat saber and is also the only person I know irl with a computer capable of VR.

I think the answer is “no” but I want to make sure.

Unity, although I've been writing some C++ lately and thinking about playing around with Unreal more.

Developing in VR is a pain but is also really amazeballs cool and rewarding.

Yeah I've been rocking that "no longer employed" thing a little too long and am struggling to find a job again. Tried to find a games job but I guess I don't have enough professional experience. So I guess I'll take another general software gig soon, although the upside there is I guess I can still work on personal VR projects at least, where a game job would probably make me sign some draconian non-compete.
