I like that they put modern tires on it too and not the ugly rear end period correct reproduction type tires. Looks so much better.

That's awesome but I think I'd like it even more if it didn't have a completely spotless interior. Feels weird.

I imagine the paint coming off like the shell of an M&M and the rusted-through frame just falling apart after removing the structural patina.

I really appreciate how they make the trucks look stock and proportional with such gigantic balloon tires. Matching fenders and a responsible lift height.

It's worth the watch, even if it's kinda dry and slow paced. Especially to see where a lot of Lucas' later work was based off, there's a lot of ideas, visuals and audio that shows where Lucas began basing development of what eventually becomes Star Wars - he cant write a plot or dialogue to save his life but he really is a drat good technical filmmaker. Also American Graffiti is definitely one of the best films of the 1970's and there's plenty in there that is used to become Indiana Jones.

His biggest problem as a film maker is that he eventually became too rich and powerful to be told no, thats a bad idea. His films that are genuinely good were all made under lots of money and studio pressure with a group of similarly talented people who were able to tell him to gently caress off when needed and also let him play with the technical side - when he stuck to the technical side poo poo like what would eventually become Pixar, THX, LucasArts, and ILM happened

It's really a sight to see. If I get it going I'll post some videos. I've done the brakes and the transaxle/engine mounts, but it's not starting for some reason, fuel isn't getting into the carb.

I'm taking ideas on what to do with it other than swim it.

World’s first amphibious drift car. You could drift it right off a dock and into the water and boat it back in. Youtube. profit.

So it’s definitely *possible* but I’m not sure I could get a low enough center of gravity and enough steering angle on it due to the height of the hull.

Would love to have a '68 or a Toronado. Headlight covers on cars of that era just elevates them to another level of bad-assery.

Hell loving yeah.

I think about amphibious cars all the time, when I was a kid I had a ton of those 'how things work' books or books with cutaway diagrams of everything and I think they led me to believe that amphibious cars were much more of a thing than they are or ever were. But I really thought it was the future, like why wouldn't it be straight up better if cars could just also cut across a lake or something? Of course it'll catch on. I guess this was also when I thought flying cars would come next.

Kits are usually better built - often a lot better built - than the real thing TBH. And faster. And a lot more "exciting" to drive. And by exciting I mean more likely to send you off a cliff at warp 9 and thats even with much updated suspension, brakes and tyres. I saw one with a supercharged 427 that claimed 800hp with AP Brakes and Ohlins suspension with massive semi slicks and just a rolling work of art and my only thought was ".... where the hell could you possibly even think about driving that safely at close to full throttle?"
