Never had the urge to do the R&R hall. Really, only did the country hall of fame to fill out a week in Nashville, but incredibly glad I did. One of the better things I've done in the States in the last decade. Only regret is we had to cut it a bit short because we were going to a Predators game that night (which was right across the street, which was very cool)

How is the country HOF if you're just kinda meh on most county music in general? Still fun?

I mean, it's good that they're doing maintenance, but you can't visit it right now. And yeah, the Rock Hall is a neat thing to visit if you happen to be in Cleveland, but I definitely wouldn't make a trip specifically for it unless you're a huge music fan. I'm struggling to think of anything that's really bucket-list worthy or world-class in Cleveland that would justify a trip in and of itself... plenty of stuff that's "nice enough" and fun to do, but nothing really unique that you can't get elsewhere.

I'm about the same way as you, a few artists I like, a bit of knowledge about the history of it, but there was a huge variety of exhibits and people who didn't know poo poo about country could get as much out of it as super-fans. It was just a really well-designed museum with a lot of really cool memorabilia. Lot of crossover with rock and roll artists you'd recognize, too. Thing that blew me away most was Kris Kristofferson's old Army uniform. I knew he was a vet, but didn't realize he was a) a Captain, and b) loving tiny There's also a working sign shop in there that you can tour: https://hatchshowprint.com/?_ga=2.267625294.1307287422.1627151950-1891358218.1627151950 That uses old-time wood block sets, and decades-old print and spindle machines that are, to put it mildly, OSHA as gently caress. I was watching a woman do a run of signs and nervous the whole time.

Recommendation: don't get a 3mm and 6mm kidney stone with urine backup into the right kidney. It kinda hurts and everyone lies about morphene/dilaudid getting you high, versus just just letting you lie flat without wanting to die. And to make it topical, I'd rather be in Ohio.

Yeah, I can't really think of anything worth visiting in Cleveland if you had no other reason to go there. My sister-in-law lives there so we visit from time to time, and there are some cool things to do if you're there already. I went to the R&R HOF once and found it incredibly boring. I haven't been to see the USS Cod unfortunately. The Cleveland Art Museum is quite nice, as is the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. Go to Little Italy and get some pastries from Presti's. Taza is pretty good downtown. Happy Dog is good, as is Mitchell's Ice Cream. There are a bunch of good brunch/breakfast places. If you're in town in March/April the Cleveland International Film Fest can be fun (if that's your thing). Just thinking about Ohio in general I'd say the most noteworthy things to travel there for are probably the National Museum of the USAF in Dayton, and Cedar Point.

For what it’s worth I’m only here as a favor to someone, not because I wanted to come to Ohio. You have a better chance of me joining the army again than me coming to Ohio by my own choice. Ok that’s a little too strong of a statement. gently caress you if you’re still in.

It still boggles my mind how a rock and roll hall of fame can be lame as poo poo. Have wax models of rock stars next to the piles of drugs that Experts(tm) estimate it would take to actually kill them. Have gear, smashed hotel room furniture, stained sheets. Whatever. "A Day in the Life of" movies running in the theaters.

If you're heading towards Cedar Point anyway, consider the Sunrise Thrills Tour. It's a bit on the pricey side at $200 but it's a different experience from a regular park visit because it includes a bunch of behind the scenes tech and operations stuff if you're into hearing about that sort of thing.

Ohio doesn't have wildfires or hurricanes or (many) earthquakes or tsunamis or whatever. It's a pretty chill place with some nice lakes and some mountains down south and a lot of forests and farm land. It's the vanilla ice cream of states; nothing exciting, blandly comfortable, and very white. The USAF museum is arguably the best aviation museum in the country and probably in the world. That's one thing in the state that I would consider a bucket list item for anyone interested in airplanes.
