Communist Thoughts posted:just got to the inevitable bit where the scifi author tackles women check out 2312 by kim stanley robinson, at a high level it’s a mystery whodunnit adventure across the solar system, but is really a slow, thoughtful exploration of humanity, and definitely has some takes on gender and family structure 2312 is long, dense, and meandering; it’s great, the slower kids on goodreads hate it

to be fair to the uap crank and various shamans, I personally have had a huge life changing journey these past 2 years, frequently spurred on by COVID-19, crack-pings, and personal growth in general forcing me to reconcile what I know to be true with how I live my life. I don’t think I’m alone in that either.

I'm not a true believerTM but the thing that really keeps me coming back to this thread is the hope that I'm wrong and I can quit this 9-5 and I can finally take up my true calling: Living in an underground bunker to avoid the extra-terrestrial slavers and only leaving to raid alien outposts for space food.

Wheeee posted:us military pilots and radar operators encountering inexplicable religious magic multiple times a week over past few years, kinda sad There's definitely different layers of UFO guys though. There's the reasonable "This is some cool, possibly alien, technology we can't explain and birds don't exist." guy. and then there's the "I can summon UFOs with my mind and I keep a piece of quartz up my rear end to amplify my psychic abilities." guy.

Wheeee posted:us military pilots and radar operators encountering inexplicable religious magic multiple times a week over past few years, kinda sad theres no convincing the ufo fans but the idea of the US military seeing many things in the air that they cant identify is not earth shattering or spooky, especially when you see the actual videos theyr talking about. that footage some goon linked earlier of the night sky with all the flying objects, those are all UAPs by definition and the footage is clearer than anything we've seen so far literally footage of a bird is a UAP since the military sensors are not set up to identify birds and from the footage of birds that have been relased its obvious that not only are the bird videos part of the x00 videos they claim to have, theyr among the best videos they have. (unless you beleive some crank who says actually they have crashed alien saucers they just released blurry footage of a plane flying away instead) a lot of people are like "how would a professional warfighter not recognise IR footage of a bird?" but the people reviewing the footage are just random interns at this new underfunded UAP body and some con artists trying to hype their books or podcasts. what are the odds a fighter pilot even understands the sensor readings? theyr not scientists. this is all explained in the UAP report and their subsequent request for funding and scientific personell, unless you read it with the idea that aliens are already real and theyr trying to downplay the imminent revelations, or you didnt read it at all you just read the summaries written by ufo fans e: i was in camp "advanced drones" before seeing the actual evidence, but theres not actually any evidence of these breakthrough technologies at all. unironically i'm perfectly willing to examine things through the lens of "UFOs aren't aliens that's absurd" because that's where i was before the modern UFO stuff started in 2017, but the idea of a large number of fighter pilots picking up literal birds on sensors and being completely loving flabbergasted by their performance characteristics is less realistic than extraterrestrial visitation. it's such a stupid idea that i'm amazed anyone believes it at all. whatever these things are, they aren't literal actual birds. bizarre natural atmospheric phenomena? the apparent intelligence they show seems to contradict that idea, but that could all be a coincidence i guess. it's not impossible. birds, as an explanation, are impossible

0.000% of recent UAP disclosures have been debunked. Capricious pilot-bamboozling aliens still taunt the world with a poo poo-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself *sad*. He is starting to suspect Lue Elizondo *hosed him over* personally with his disclosure program. It has, unfortunately, made him into a very, very defensive boy with something like a schoolboy crush on Mick West. Instead of debunking UAPs, he now throws facile attempts at denial against this beautiful, inevitable reality.

Ross Coulthart says he's been told that Americans involved in reverse engineering UAP tech have defected to China, which may explain Navy patents "Now I'm not leaping to conclusions when they say they've been involved in a crash retrieval program. I'm not leaping to conclusions that's true. Because one thing you have to take into account as a journalist, and I've been on the receiving end of these before, is deliberate disinformation. A country like America might be at a strategic disadvantage, for example. It might know that, say hypothetically, the Russians have been able to develop some kind of breakthrough in anti-gravitics. Or maybe the Chinese. Maybe somebody who was working for the Americans might have defected to the Chinese. I'm told that they have. And maybe that anti-gravitics technology is now being worked on in the black by the Chinese, and maybe this behind the scenes great race going on of trying to develop this technology before anyone else...maybe that's the reason for the Dr. Salvatore Pais patents." I hope the people's republic succeeds in stymying the united $nakkes of Amerikka

Communist Thoughts posted:theres no convincing the ufo fans but the idea of the US military seeing many things in the air that they cant identify is not earth shattering or spooky lmao that you would believe this. 80 of those 144 incidents were recorded across multiple sensors, meaning half of the incidents, at least, are almost certainly not loving birds or balloons. And this thread is very open to things being not aliens or timetravelers or molemen or 5th dimensional jellyfish or whatever, but that argument gets harder to make when a thing is caught on multiple sensors doing insane poo poo that seems to defy physics, a phenomenon which has been acknowledged by a ton of different governments by the way. Now Harvard is doing a study on it too. Wow must be due to a bunch of birds you're just creating your own reality lol did u get a hand on some of those crystals Communist Thoughts posted:a lot of people are like "how would a professional warfighter not recognise IR footage of a bird?" but the people reviewing the footage are just random interns at this new underfunded UAP body and some con artists trying to hype their books or podcasts. lol what are you talking about? No one in this thread idolizes the military, but pilots and radar operators generally know what a bird looks like. And AATIP was run by an intelligence officer with degrees in microbiology, immunology, math, and chemistry, while other work was subcontracted out to an aerospace company that had active NASA contracts. Various other studies on UFOs done by both the US and other nations, have involved astrophysicists. lol "Interns" Communist Thoughts posted:what are the odds a fighter pilot even understands the sensor readings? theyr not scientists. pretty high you ding dong lol they know more about it than your average mick west, at least Communist Thoughts posted:this is all explained in the UAP report and their subsequent request for funding and scientific personell, unless you read it with the idea that aliens are already real and theyr trying to downplay the imminent revelations, or you didnt read it at all you just read the summaries written by ufo fans no its not, unless you read it with some NDT debunker brain going in. It clearly states that there are 144 unexplained incidents (collected almost entirely over the past two years alone), with 80 of them seen across multiple sensors, and the "other" category in the report is clearly meant as a catch all for explanations like "sentient ball lightning/aliens/interdimensional bigfoot/timetravelers/squidmen/we just dont loving know", without requiring the government to actually say "sentient ball lightning/aliens/interdimensional bigfoot/timetravelers/squidmen/we just dont loving know."
