Halfway through, I went to fix us both a coke float.

The oil filter on my 2013 VW GTI was on the top and it ruined doing oil changes for me forever.

I'm about 99% sure it's bogus or someone misunderstanding something they did.

Ignoring the misuse of terms: "shift panel", "auto-pilot" for the two tap feature (two tap is technically FSD, the cars always come with basic autopilot on a single tap of the shifter stalk)

The pricing for FSD after delivery I don't think has creeped up that high, but I don't have a Tesla to check with in the app

but more importantly, the upgrade isn't accessible at all from the car, and when you buy the upgrade in the app the car has to be in park and connected to wifi, as switching over to FSD requires rebooting the car to switch over to the FSD software branch.

The oil filter location on my Ford Focus diesel requires you to remove the majority of the plastic air intake and throttle body to get at it if you don't have the "special tool".

Back in April the rover found a big rear end rock and selected ramming speed at 25kph. This busted a bulkhead that the suspension bolts to which is also a stressed member for the center differential.
The center diff was already marginal with re-ground pinion gears and without the support of the skid or the bulkhead, its condition rapidly deteriorated. Given how hard it is to get replacement parts and dig into the center diff, that stalled developing the platform while on the road.

Matrix just got its once a year oil change.

Dealer claimed to have changed the oil when it was in for the airbag recall. That pissed me off, as it had maybe 500 miles on Mobil 1 high mileage and an OEM filter. Looked under there and saw an OEM filter, but there's no way to tell if it's the one I put on or the one they claim to have put on.

The car has only seen about 1000 miles since then. There's no way in hell they changed the oil - the oil would still only have about 3k on it if it's the oil I put in last year, but what came out definitely looks like it has a year on it. Reeeeeeeeeeks of gas too, ugh. I need to get it up to highway speeds more often.

It got Mobil 1 extended performance this time (*good for 20k miles!) and a Mobil 1 extended performance filter (*good for 15k miles!), since it only sees one oil change a year. The oil was originally destined for the Cruze I work on occasionally, but friend couldn't wait on me to change it at the time since she had to go out of town. Apparently the Matrix holds between 3.9 and 4.4 quarts depending which dipstick it has too; the dipstick was revised at some point. After running it a little bit and checking, I can definitely confirm it's showing about half a quart overfilled. It was just under the full mark before draining, so I guess it lost about half a quart in a year. Not bad considering the timing cover is leaking, and it looks like the rear crank seal has joined the party.

They gave me an itemized estimate sheet with parts and labor and I was comparing it to the final bill and noticed they slipped in license plate lights for $60.00. The guy asked me if everything was all good and I questioned it and he was oh, uh, your license plate lights were out and I figured you would want them changed. I said, $60? That's a little pricey to just do without consulting me, which I definitely would have refused, don't you think? Uh, yeah. Let me go ahead and take that off your bill for you. I looked it up and if I bought the most expensive set of plate lights I could they were $20. Tradesmen fleecing people who don't know better is such a universal phenomenon. The potential payoff is too great: if the person doesn't catch on, it's literally free money. And if person calls you out, you just make up some poo poo like "oops, sorry, I must have gotten your order confused with someone else's, I'll take that charge off right now of course." Maybe you even give them a discount for the "inconvenience" because guaranteed you're making it back off the other 6 people that day who paid $185 for "throttle body cleaning."

Just recently I was helping a friend move into his new house and randomly found the invoice for the locksmith he'd gotten to change the locks and glanced over it.

"drat, they were here for two whole days?"
"What? No, just one morning, like 9am to noon."
"Oh, so they brought like four guys for some reason?"
"One guy. Why?"
"Well he charged you for 13 hours of labor."

That's why when you find an honest mechanic, just like when you find a good barber, you stay 100% loyal to that guy and tip well.

That reminds me of the time my grandfather went to some guy's little shop to get some cab lights installed on his truck, and afterwards his reverse lights stopped working. The guy quoted him ~$200 to diagnose the issue, claiming it couldn't be related to the cab light wiring and might take some time to track down the problem.

My grandfather took the truck back home and called me to see if I could help figure out what was wrong. After going over the fuses and such, I figured I'd just pull the taillight assembly to check the bulbs.

the reverse lights were unplugged

Toyota and their included servicing on leases is bad for this. They get someone in who doesn’t know about cars and get sold a 4 wheel alignment, blinker fluid flush, oh the serving doesn’t include the special unicorn blood oil so we up charge for that etc…. I just take the wife’s Toyota in myself after numerous times she took it in and there was some high pressure sales bullshit. “Oh it needs the alignment for the warranty!” :fuckoff:
