Why do Americans get pissed at people changing lanes? How else are you meant to get to the outside lane, or to the offramp from the outside lane? The problem in that gif is that everyone's following way to loving close behind the car in front.

Because people seem to forget where they need to go and what exit they need to take and getting off at the next exit is JUST. NOT. POSSIBLE. People would rather chance an accident crossing two or more lanes instead of getting in the right lane 5 miles prior because its just a little slower.

For sure that's a dick move, you're meant to do it in two separate movements. But again, only causes the traffic to slow down because everyone's riding the rear end of the vehicle in front of them. Which is way more dangerous than cutting across two lanes of traffic.

It seems like everyone and their mother spent their stimulus check on cars because traffic has been waaaaaaay worse than pre-pandemic and people just flat out are driving like assholes way more. In over two decades of driving I've never been passed on the shoulder at speed, but it has happened three times in the last six months. Once while I was going well over 70mph, so dude on the shoulder had to be going about 80.

What I hate is getting on the highway from the onramp, and then trying to get over to the middle lane from the tapering right lane... and nobody lets me in. Where did you want me to go? I just got on the highway and the only part of the roadway I have is rapidly diminishing! Just open a loving space!!!

What you can see in that example is not someone switching lanes to get to a junction though. It's an example of how jams happen on clear roads. Someone switches because they perceive their lane is travelling slower than the others which causes cars behind to brake and so on. The cars in the gif are not real cars it might surprise you to learn and theyre just so close together to make it fit neatly in the diagram.
