I used to think it was a waste of time when we know M4A will fail any kind of vote, especially the weeks and week of people arguing over it (I'd argue that anytime "debating" FTV is better spent talking to someone who doesn't know about M4A at all). especially when it seemed the FTV discourse was a just a way for TYT and Dore to whip up view counts, just like the recent drama this thread enjoyed. however, in retrospect it's embarrassing for 'the squad' because (iirc) they didn't drag out a single demand or compromise from Pelosi and voted her into speaker with ease. so I feel like that clip is more damning in that respect

There is also the fact that a number of democrats "support" universal healthcare only to the extent that it will never pass. In California, democrats famously campaigned on universal healthcare at the state level with Arnold, a republican, was in power. Then democrats got super majorities across all levels of state government, and suddenly the universal healthcare bill died in committee, with the democratic leader at the time specifically saying that they were doing that because they didn't have the votes to pass it, but didn't want to actually have a vote because it would put people who campaigned on it but were actually against it in tough electoral spots. So there is likely a huge number of people who claim to support M4A but who would never actually vote for M4A, and forcing the vote leads to revealing who those are.

To be fair, it's not that the squad don't want to bring the bill to the floor even if it fails. It's the fact that: 1) it's not their bill so they can't technically do it. It's Jayapal's bill. 2) They also need Pelosi to allow it to come to the floor. FTV people wanted the squad to leverage votes over Pelosi's speakership when she was going to be reinstated. This could force Pelosi to allow it. But they refused to do so. So the whole controversy is around the squad not being brave enough to confront Pelosi when she was being reinstated.
