It's only Socialism if the "wrong" people get it. Otherwise it's just me getting help through a system designed to help taxpayers like me who are just having a difficult time through no fault of their own.

Just pay people more money.

People will work if you pay them more money.

If you can't afford to do that, you can't afford to be in business.

Okay maybe I'm asleep but I'm awake enough to be honest: I don't know what they're actually trying to say.

Is it because it's a non sequitur: Who are the lazy people being rewarded? The people making minimum wage? The people "holding out for a management position"? Anyone not employed?

Or the definition fallacy: Why are they "lazy" if they're unemployed? Did they get laid off? Earning unemployment insurance income? Medical, or short term disability? Or are they complaining about food stamps here? Are they a retiree?

Or... (still thinking, which is likely pointless since their message has nothing to do with rational thought.)

It's referring to the extra $300 in unemployment.

Basically, jobs pay so loving little that people are making more money staying home and collecting unemployment.
The OP believes this to be a moral failing of the people rather than the employers, as obviously it's just laziness to collect the larger check rather than let yourself be worked to death for less than pennies.

Their solution is to give extra money to the people who are working, which is a remarkable Own Goal as "Not making enough money while working" is the entire reason people are staying home in the first place.

^^^ There it is, the self-own of their approach making things de facto worse as well as logically less consistent. To whit, posted at the same time...

I think I'm having difficulty figuring it out because I counted at least seven logical fallacies.

Assuming (with many drugs) they use this to prove "unemployed people getting 300/wk extra were lazy", wouldn't the obvious conclusion be, "oh crap we're giving 300/wk to employed people so now they're lazy (along with all the unemployed people who got a job to prove our point)!" :downsgun:

To say nothing about a 62% labor force getting 300/wk versus a 6% unemployment pool getting that amount. (61.4B vs 5.9B/wk)

ps I mostly have it now. Thanks for your patience. Conclusion: Don't hire these people as "knowledge workers".

You are really overthinking this. Poor Unemployed people are a personal moral failing and lazy and entitled. As such giving them anything is both a waste and a moral sin. I stead give that money to people who are working and these lazy unemployed people will be motivated to work.

This is the summation of their thought. There is nothing else there to get and if you try to think deeper than this you'll have already spent more effort than they did.

It's the craziest thing. Turns out that if you give poor people money they spend it right away on the things they've been too poor to afford, thus circulating that money in the economy immediately.

Who could have possibly predicted this!?

It really shouldn't take an economics degree to figure out a consumer based economy only functions when consumers have money to spend. Top heavy economies do gently caress all for anybody and, like most top heavy things, are much more prone to collapse.

Yeah, I overhear and directly get a lot of "nobody wants to work" bullshit in my day to day life - from regular coworkers to bosses - and I still don't think that's true but, if I'm being honest, I don't know enough to about it to generate any kind of well thought out pushback on it.

This is me completely ignoring the thing where going to work somewhere for $10 or $13 an hour with no benefits at all simply makes no sense if you have to pay a babysitter that much to care for your child, get sick, have a car break down or just need a trip to the dentist. I think we've hit critical mass here and are on a late stage 2:00 am Monopoly board for the most part but it's like...

Even the BOSSES I work for can't make any money because none of them are in the top 5% and those fucks who are literally have all the equity, power and control. Period. Some of these employers are this close to getting it but always fall back on how poor people are lazy and everyone is kicking back on $250/week sticking it to the man.

A friend's dad has been going on and on about how millennials (he actually means Gen Z) are lazy and that unemployment and the bonus are keeping people from working and isn't it so sad restaurants can't find enough employees, and on each of these multiple occasions my friend tries to explain things to him.

Recently this guy's niece, a hostess for front of house, told him what she makes and he was all "they don't pay her enough!"

And then not a few days later pulled out the laziness canard.

Nothing. It's just that you can wake up one day believing that Toad People from the Moon grew a Joe Biden body double in a Moon lab, kidnapped real Joe Biden, and astral projected the Biden body double to Earth to steal the election with a telekinetic vote changing helmet, and somehow there's already a Facebook group dedicated to that narrative with over 10k followers already waiting to tell you the whole thing is true and everybody who tells you otherwise is a Deep State Toad People agent forever.
