She's a human. A lovely LNP human, but a human all the same. Humans make mistakes. Accepting that you failed and learning from it is good. Pretending like you have the toughest lockdown of any state ever when you can still go to Bunnings and the reject shop and making the path out of lockdown the responsibility of the public and victim blaming people for not taking vaccines they can't loving get is pissing off everyone. I actually am not against much of what she's currently doing - she at least closed the barn door after the horse bolted - but it's the rhetoric that shits me. I was driving on a rural road the other day when she said on the radio that "going in and out of lockdown like Victoria is no way to live" and I just about drove the car into a ditch. Own up and admit that you hosed it and should've locked down earlier instead of clinging to the failed strategy! Being right 9/10 times doesn't actually matter if the 1/10 time you get it wrong results in everyone being in lockdown for 4-5 months, with hundreds of deaths! Just replace McGowan with Morrison and WA with Australia.

Few Australians knew who McGowan was in 2019 but now he's the poster child for border closures - despite those closures being a) good and enviable, and b) no different from SA's and Tasmania's. Yeah, but that awareness is basically because we're all aware of how the other states decisions affect us. Sure more people know McGowans name, but I doubt many have awareness of his policies inside WA beyond how they affect the state borders.

https://amp.abc.net.au/article/100353020 Not remotely surprising but still utterly disgusting. When I was working at a bottle-o attached to a pub and pokies venue it was a common belief among staff (I can’t say for certain it was true because I never tried to find out)that the owners spent a good chunk of the money they are required to give use for charitable/social purposes from pokies revenue on subsidising pensioner meals at their own bistro. To me the NSW model is an easy fix, just make the council committee the decision maker for where funds go instead of merely making recommendations to the venues. Of course that doesn’t address the fact that they don’t seem to be actually putting any more money out of pokies, it’s just a diversion of what would otherwise be tax revenue.

ClubsNSW is hosed because clubs in it are 'not for profit' but will also have like 200 pokies in what is classified as a 'small' club. I worked for one of the club conglom's for a while and its pretty disgusting how much of the revenue gets spent on making the club bigger/better/generating more income to spend on itself.

I prefer WA's model, gently caress the pokies. All gambling is done in one hosed up uber corrupt resort, or allowed on one special day in regular pubs. Ignoring TABs of course. I can't imagine what it's like having pokies scattered all over your state.

Yeah, no pokies is pretty nice. Gives crown a bunch of money though. After this royal commission, hopefully they lose their licensed though. Some of this that's popping up is so blatantly criminal that I can't see how they will keep it.

Not strictly AusPol stuff, but people are talking about it: When Crown inevitably lose their Casino license, do we know who will pick it up? Will they just buy the Casino building, slap on a "Under new management" sign and continue as normal? Or do they have to build their own Casino somewhere, and set up again from scratch? Also whilst it is true and self evident that Pokies are an awful blight on society, and that gambling is bad, and the Casino is a horrible soul destroying place, (I worked there for 2 1/2 years so I have first hand evidence of it's horribleness). It does employ an army of people who are going to be hosed when Crown goes under. Just as that whole "entertainment complex" of restaurants/bars/shops etc will die and take the, (mostly casual and part time), workers with it.

The Victorian Government has announced a Royal Commission into their shady dealings, mostly a fuckton of money laundering, various scandals involving flying people out from China to gamble, bribing the government to ignore said flights from China, ect, ect. The NSW subsidary of Crown has already had it's gaming license revoked, so Crown Melbourne will probably have theirs revoked in due course, so some other Casino company will probably swoop in, buy the holding company and then it'll go back to business as usual.

snoremac posted:Ah okay. Nor surprising, but surprising they might get in trouble. It's not illegal, except they were bringing in gamblers who have known links to organized crime, and were pretty much just letting them launder money freely so long as the Casino got their cut. The other issue was Crown was exploiting a Howard era scheme to fast track the gamblers visas provided that Crown did all the background checks and a lot of the paperwork so Immigration could just rubber stamp things. Of course, Crown did zero background checks and just let anyone in so long as Crown was making money.

Well, I'm now fully vaccinated as of yesterday. Was feeling fine just after the 2nd Pfizer vaccine if a bit tired, but then overnight things got rough. First had night sweats and then chills throughout the night. Woke up this morning with a pounding headache and achy joints. It honestly feels like I've gone through the symptoms of the flu in a 24hr period. Kinda sucked, but being fully Vacc'ed does feel great. e: Woops - typo on number of vax! Ive been injecting myself every day, sometimes multiple times a day if I can stand it. The symptoms were terrible for the first few weeks. There were times I was completely paralyzed with pain, contorted like the Edvard munch painting and frozen in agony for hours. I became stronger and some of the worst symptoms subsided over time. I've been vaxmaxxing for almost 4 months now and I feel as though I'm becoming something greater than human now. I will continue to administer the injections into the same arm as long as possible. I'm increasing the dosages as much as I can stand and will maintain my journal.
