This is a few years old but I hadn't hard it before. It's a band that mixed some other songs by other synthwave bands, and I did not know that when I queued it up on spotify in my "music to check out while I am working" playlist. It was one heck of a weird trip just now when it hit the chorus and I was pulled out of my work by my brain going "Wait why isn't this The Midnight"?

Edit: Also LeBrock’s new album Fuse. Solid from start to finish.

Honestly The Midnight's Rearview Mirror orchestral stuff isn't blowing me away. I think it's because a. I am not just about The Midnight's vocals, I like synth and sax b. it's not huge wall of sound orchestra and that's on me, Devin Townsend spoiled it for me.

Can totally agree with the midnight stuff, I thought it was going to blow me away but as it turns out he's kind of a one trick pony with his vocals and they just didn't sound good with that orchestra, here's hoping they release the instrumental tracks.

Like vampires is good, it's understated, the piano and cello are lovely but I haven't heard anything else great or different its all similar. Again I think its because I was expecting big wall of sound heavy orchestra. Its not bad.

Yeah, clearly chamber orchestra, not opera house. I like Tyler's vocals a lot, so it's still good to me, but I'm seeing them in November and I'm way more hype for neon Medusa live than anything else they've done in the last few years.

this is rad. sounds like it could be either:

- music to a flashback montage of a roller rink summer

- end credit music to a SNES era jrpg

- music to a sky level in a sonic the hedgehog game gear game

Thanks, that's exactly what I was going for. It's really inspired by the music in the Bit-Trip Runner games.

I have a number of other tracks I'm working on, but mixing + mastering still intimidates me. I think I did ok on this one, but I gotta figure out how to get better at that.

eta ^^ this rules, wasn't familiar with Dynatron, thanks for posting it

Thought I'd share this - a collection of music I've been making with mainly analog synths (real and plugin simulations) the past few months:

https://spanishlessons.bandcamp.com/album/lp1

Not sure how to describe it other than a sort of an odd mix of synthwave/ambient/80s soundtrack where I find chords, melodies and moods that feel right to me. I mostly find inspiration in Timecop1983, Brian Eno, Disasterpeace, and Tony Banks of Genesis if that helps. Hope you listen and enjoy.

If anyone's curious, most of the pads and some of the leads are the Cherry Audio Polymode plugin (Polymoog emulator), while a fair amount of the bass, leads, buzzy arpeggios and anything that seems to be bending out of tune would be my Faemi Mini toy synth from the Soviet Union circa late 70s or 80s.

vv thank you!

Saw The Midnight tonight, just about 2 years since the last time they were in town. Different show with Tim on a full drum set. Also being in seats instead of on the floor is its own thing.

New song y'all: https://youtu.be/ByiDvRUG-S8

Apologies for, y'know, quality issues in the recording and nearby person's foot.

Opening act was Jupiter Winter, made up of the bassist and lead guitar throwing down the solo there. Sounded neat, midnight-y by way of chvrches.

I only listened to the beginning but it looks like they're kicking back into high gear with at least one song on their next album. Looking forward to it, as much as I loved their ballads and would consider Explorers my favorite song by them, I've been missing stuff like Gloria and Days of Thunder.

You can see the tour four times, they're live streaming the last show in LA later this month.

Yeah the new song felt *very* different for the midnight, almost like a cover of a Scorpions song with a touch of carpenter brut. Conceptually it makes sense if the Horror Show sound wasn't a one-off collab with Essenger, and they're going to build around a darker, more rock-forward sound.

Of course, the release of deep blue had me thinking Monsters would be entirely comprised of slapping sax heavy bangers, and in the end it felt more low tempo and experimental. So who knows.

I don’t really know if TWRP belongs in this thread because they’re more electro funk with synths and talk box vocals (very Daft Punk inspired down to having costumes on stage) but I searched and they’ve been talked about here before so

Not strictly synthwave but M.O.O.N dropped a new track for the first time in over 4 years (and saying they were no longer going to release further music under that name). Getting your music put in Hotline Miami while a teenager probably was a headfuck.
