Can you guys recommend some masks for kids and advice on how to help make them comfortable using them

I have a ~2y old nephew and was wondering if you can recommend any masks for that age. Sometimes he and his parents do need to go out (for medical checkups or such).

Bonus points if it is cool for a 2y old little guy!

(double posting from other threads as I'm hoping to have a couple of options available to recommend, there is little I can do for my family in these circumstances but I try to help)

I bought a few at my local ALDI in the checkout line. They have sharks and spaceships on them. Still trying to get my son to put them on but its slow going. He just turned 2. Also looking for suggestions if anyone has any. We cancelled our flight & drove for our vacation a couple months ago and it worked out well.

Quebec sounds like they are going to roll out a vaccine passport really quick. Will be interesting to see what Ontario does. BC, my city in particular, is full of tourists right now because the rest of the province is on fire. Luckily we have a very high double vax population but it's very busy and all the new cases are Delta variant lol.

phew, now is NOT the time for vaccine passport. it's not the time for ANY passport. well canada's politicians did all take that secret vacation to hawaii last year so i can't say im surprised

How much do I cum? The answer might surprise you!

If I understand correctly the intention of Quebecs vaccine passport will be able to allow fully vaxed people to go to gyms, movies, restaurants and other non-essential activities not for travelling outside of the country.

Probably A with a bit of B an C. C just because it says "over it" or want to be over it. I still wear a mask everywhere. We booked a two day trip to the shore away from the boardwalk. Hopefully the beach won't be crowded or maybe after dinner time there will be less people. If not we booked an ocean view at the hotel so can at least sit in the room, look and drink.

But also, keep wearing a mask, because it's clear just getting a vax wasn't enough to open 'er up. gently caress this author for just recycling bad stats and passing the buck to the unvaxxed. Ya get vaxxed obviously but US leadership has been a complete mismanaged failure and using the unvaxxed as a scapegoat. Don't just get go about your day going to concerts and parties because "it's good now because I got the shot!". Doesn't work like that.

The Washington Post story which broke the new data, for instance, said that breakthrough infections “may not be so rare after all,” even though the CDC document estimates that weekly, only 1 out of every 4600 vaccinated people gets symptomatic Covid, which is pretty rare

Why is this guy ignoring CDC guidance? This is the first slide after the title:

Downplaying the prevalence of vaccine breakthroughs threatens to backfire and make people distrust the vaccine.

quote:

Headlines saying things like “CDC Says Fully Vaccinated Spread the Delta Variant” were not false, exactly: fully vaccinated people can spread the virus. But by failing to mention anything about how likely fully vaccinated people are to spread the virus (that is, not at all likely), these headlines made people think that fully vaccinated people might be Typhoid Marys, rather than playing a very small role in the continued transmission of Covid.

Hmm yes very small role.

Delta is everyone’s problem now.

Basically that. None of the levels actually include any masks or anything. In fact only the lowest level even includes testing because they forgot to include it in any of the other levels. So technically less testing the worse it gets

Quebec is doing really well on vaccination numbers but since the earliest days of the pandemic it’s been the hardest hit in canada. But we’re getting it under control. Yeah there are idiot anti vaxxers but not more than in Ontario or BC as far as I can tell.

I've been taking all of covid extremely seriously and self-isolating strong as hell ever since I first heard that it was affecting smell and taste. That's a sign of a neurological condition. Like for example losing your sense of taste and smell can be a precursor to Parkinson's that starts showing a decade or more before other symptoms.

Also: This list of Parkinsons non-motor symptoms pretty closely mimics lots of reports I've heard of "long covid" symptoms overall lmao

I mean I'm not saying that covid infections are going to turn into parkinsons but I am not loving around with even the slightest risk of neurological conditions and I have been living like I'm in some kind of pandemic movie ever since Feb 2020. I've only left my home once a month to pick up prescriptions at the drive through pharmacy.

In fact here's a study on the olfactory effects of covid:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7449368/

which concludes:

quote:

Based on reviewing anosmia as a result of viral infection, specific mechanisms of anosmia can be postulated. Nasal congestion and obstruction similar to the common cold may contribute to a conductive olfactory loss. However, depending on the true distribution of ACE2, virulence potential, and resulting immune and inflammatory response, olfactory dysfunction may indicate a peripheral injury of the first cranial nerve and branches or a harbinger of a more global neurological manifestation of the disease. Long-term follow-up studies on patients with isolated sudden onset anosmia will be important because this symptom may indicate the onset of neuroinvasion that could result in chronic neurodegenerative disease. The rates of permanent anosmia post-COVID-19 infection and impact of viral treatment regimens should be assessed.

And yeah I am not fuckin' around with that. The most absurd part of 2021 now is that with Delta variant having an exponentially higher viral load there's also a higher chance of neuroinvasion, so wow way to fuckin' go republicans you're probably giving us all communicable brain diseases.

I’m pretty much group C, I was a good boy and stayed home during the pandemic, got my Moderna doses as soon as I was able to in April. Was called to come back to work (bartending) and was told that I wouldnt have to wear the mask since I was vaccinated. Now as of this week indoor masks are required again (San Francisco) and I hate it because working long shifts with the mask all day is absolutely miserable and i’d rather they just lay me off again and go back on unemployment. Hell i’d sign a waiver not to have to wear the mask and if unvaccinated near me get it then that is on them.

Eh it’s fine for toddlers. I work in a preschool and over here the 2 years and older have to mask up.

While getting some of the younger kids to wear masks was challenging, none of them were terrified.

I don’t really have much advice on masking for kids beyond trying out different types of masks (fabric, surgical, structured like the n95) to see what works best for your kid. Also you might wanna consider mask extenders to make the mask ‘tighter’ on the kids face.
