Who is this socialist goon running for the recall election? Or was that a joke?

I see 2 socialist candidates listed on the Wikipedia page, Dennis Richter and David Moore.

There's also a candidate for the California National Party, which is running on seceding the US. Oh I know my candidate now!

VVV Thanks, I'll vote for him.

Similar thing happened in Britain where the Delta variant is ahead of us, case rate just kinda collapsed for no good reason. It's possible it happens here too.

That's the issue, a whole lotta people are going to vote Yes to recall him even if they don't have a replacement preference.

There's several problems with it:
1) The delta variant has been shown to be transmissible even between two vaccinated people. Thankfully the vaccine continues to be effective in preventing mass deaths, but there remain breakthrough cases of vaccinated people being hospitalized or dying, as well as the effects of long-COVID.
2) The majority of unvaccinated Californians are children, many of whom are too young to get a vaccine even if they wanted. Since vaccinated adults can effectively transmit to children, encouraging the public to go unmasked is almost guaranteeing that every child will be infected, particularly with Newsom's push for in person instruction. A lot of horrifying but rare complications like MIS-C start piling up if you allow millions of children to get infected. It also appears that 5-15% of infected children suffer from long COVID, which includes loss of gray matter in the brain in the areas responsible for taste, smell, and memory. It's impossible to know at this stage the long term medical effects of COVID, but current studies show the short term effects are worse than lead poisoning.
3) Allowing the delta variant to spread through a partially vaccinated population creates the perfect evolutionary conditions for the virus to completely escape our current vaccines. Already the delta variant is virulent enough and sufficiently resistant to current vaccines that herd immunity cannot be achieved against it by vaccination alone. If this happens we'll be seeing surges of new variants and deadly outbreaks for years if not decades to come.

I'm working on a statement and some ads for my gubernatorial campaign, calling for a zero COVID strategy. https://socialism2021.com

I think part of the problem when it comes to messaging is that our current political parties treat "Hispanic" like this one united thing and not a panorama of demographics.

E: I'm thinking of when I was talking to my mom and she thought Mexican was a race.
Yeah too many Americans include what are essentially just white people and then act surprised and act like they're "POCs" when some of them vote Republican.

I mean, if this succeeds, it wouldn't surprise me if this actually did become the Republican strategy going forward. Is there a limit on how many times a governor can be recalled during their term? We could have an election every year!

Right, but in that same poll the recall still fails, even if 100% of the people who haven't decided on a candidate pick any random person instead of not seeing any candidate they like and then just voting no on question 1 instead.

Newsom getting recalled would be pretty funny. Sucks about the lovely seat-filler we'd be stuck with for a year, but on the bright side the state legislature might start pretending to care about progressive causes again once there's a clear veto in the governor's mansion.

I think the bigger long-term effect of a successful recall is that every Dem governor going forward will be constantly looking over their shoulder for a potential recall effort from the right, which will make passing meaningful progressive policy that much more difficult. Which is why I personally can't really get behind the whole "wouldn't it be funny if Gavin got recalled lol" thing.
