I've seen some people here laugh at The Deep driving a Hummer because it's a gas guzzling monster but no one's pointed out that a hummer is also slang for a blowjob

For that final scene where it turns out that Homelander is jerking off on top of the Empire State Building or whatever, I initially thought that when the camera panned down it would turn out that he was loving a still-quadriplegic/out-of-it Stormfront and that it was going to be another "this woman thought she had power over this monster, but now the constraints are really off!" thing like with Stillwell in the season one finale. It was a relief that they didn't go that route.

That, and the Deep criticizing the unholy love of Fresca. These bits are wonderful, I hope they keep making these.

The first time I ever heard of adrenachrome was from Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas which came out in ‘98, so I have to assume it’s been a “thing” since the 80’s.

The book was first serialized in a magazine in '71. So a bit longer than that.

I'm pretty sure that all the current conspiracists claiming the elites are using children for adrenachrome also saw fear and loathing. I think without that movie it wouldn't really be in the public consciousness on the same level.

I never got the bit about them starring in their own movies, which are about them. I get that supes are a completely marketed product, but it feels very redundant, when you could do gags about who’s playing who.

Helps also blur the line between reality and the fantasies they create about what the heroes actually do to save people.

Considering how often they gently caress things up when they aren't staged/micromanaged to death (or just very simple), there's very little functional difference between the movies and their "actual" heroism, and it's the former from which they get most of their reputation.

It's one of the few bits of the show that is directly lifted from the comic, and the comic goes into a lot more detail about the origins.

(They'd have to have toned him down a hell of a lot from the comic, which is why there's no The Legend character in the TV show.)

I'm just happy it led to the whole roast of Marvel movies and also the hilarious "going away" speech visual gag with A-train after he was demoted at work.

Well, they don't star in their own porn, so at least in that case they've been recast :haw:

But yeah, as we saw with Starlight and Deep, even when they do "their real job" its pretty staged anyways. They're just PR.

I don't know if you've read the comics, (comic spoiler for something that has been hinted coming in the next season!) Herogasm is the ultimate example of this, pretending "we're going to go fight aliens to save humanity!" so they can all just go on vacation. Everything about the supes in this world is performative and a lie.

So, there was a spin-off series announced a while back and, Amazon just put out a press release about it.

As tired as I am about "Supes in College", this actually sounds like it might be interesting given just how hosed up we know the show's creators' are willing to get.

quote:

“Set at America’s only college exclusively for young-adult superheroes (run by Vought International), the Untitled The Boys Spinoff is an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. It’s part college show, part Hunger Games—with all the heart, satire, and raunch of The Boys. Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Shane Paul McGhie, Aimee Carrero, Reina Hardesty, and Maddie Phillips will portray young superheroes, with additional cast to be announced.”

Honestly, it's starting to seem more true to life every day, including ultraviolent freaks running the show. If Antony Blinken had laser eyes, it would be 1-to-1.
