Doing poo poo piecemeal like this hasn't worked through the whole lockdown by stages and areas, and just makes it confusing and makes people angrier and see it as unfair treatment for a virus that absolutely does not give a poo poo about what suburb or LGA you are in.
We'll just have a new neighbouring area that's the "bad" area in a week or so.

People are trying to justify it on the basis that Penrith has wards, but locking down only the eastern ward means that you're not locking down the locations of the biggest shopping centres and businesses.

Not to mention that Blacktown also has wards but the whole of Blacktown LGA was locked down. (and Blacktown is huge).

So like the whole NSW outbreak is going to get worse and worse - what's Gladys' end game? At what point do they declare a Victoria style lockdown? Or will they just ignore it and hope it keeps spilling into the other states?

They won't do a VIC style Lockdown. It's politically impossible. They'd rather let everyone die than admit they hosed up the response. They're just going to throw up their hands and say they tried, blame the public, and then roll it all back and let it "run its course" as soon as they can. Maybe after they can say that most of the NSW population has had at least one dose of vaccine as if that's adequate.

The messaging leans very heavily towards "it's up to you" these days, which completely ignores the fact that we still have insufficient vaccine to cover everyone.

When this outbreak started, the lifting of restrictions wasn't tied to a vaccination threshold. It feels like a bit of a bait and switch to now talk about those targets as though the only thing which determines whether and when they're met is the public's willingness to roll up their sleeves.

Fwiw, we're absolutely behind on contact tracing. Younger daughter was a casual contact and it took two weeks for her to be contacted.

This is complex and I'm on my phone, but the very short version is that if you were straight white and middle class or higher, the 90s and early 2000s were treated as the end of history.

All the big problems like poverty and racism and sexism and homophobia were solved! All this was reinforced by the media telling us all how awesome the modern world was.

Unless you weren't rich, straight, white or male. In which case it felt like the world had moved on from merely making GBS threads on you to actively telling you to your face that you didn't exist and were either exaggerating or outright lying about how hosed up poo poo still was.

This was all coupled with a whole slew of political and police bullshit to keep you invisible.

And all THAT meant a whole lot of very angry marginalised kids.

The vaccination thresholds aren't. The Liberals know they're unreachable and they're just a scapegoat to shift blame away from them for not doing more to stop COVID spreading.

Sydney is already in most of Vic Stage 4 with a some probably pointless adjustments (no 5km rule) and some critical omissions (no ring of steel to stop people going to the loving regions).

What’s missing are the detailed workplace/industry restrictions and capacity changes that were key in stopping Vic second wave in lower skilled essential workplaces. Previously NSW probably couldn’t do these because the fiscal support (JobKeeper) wasn’t there, but now there is so it can only be ascribed to Gladys’ hubris.

The plan insofar as there is one is that when LGAs get to 50% adults vaxxed they can start outdoor dining with 4-sq m rule and some other baby steps towards letting ‘er rip.

Just got a text from a mate in Geelong in Victoria that he had a customer stop in for some drinks on her way back from the snow because it had been a six hour drive and she apparently didn't think things like lockdowns or quarantines applied to her family.
