Sit around in cities. You should watch your total time though, hanging around too long will attract missiles.

Also make sure when you attack, you enter as few ships into each combat as you can stand. That helps some.

After capturing a prize ship, I have learned to leave the wreckage and get out of the area immediately. Too many times, I have lost a group to a hail of tactical missiles that descend on the location where I am reported.

Do the enemy tactical groups fire blindly at reports of your movement if they are in range?

I accidentally had my carrier engage a garrison because it turns out, he was faster than my fast attack ships... anyways, I launched his fighters to attack the surprised garrison while they were still on the ground and raced for the retreat point.

All the fighters disappeared as soon as the battle was over, which sucked.

I find a large empty space in between a group of cities and just follow the roads around. You don't even need the ground radar up; you can usually see them in visual.

Everyone will tell you to follow roads but there are tarkhans who will straight up tell you where they are once recruited. The pirate and the kid whose dad was thrown off an aircraft iirc

Spent all day building my own ultra fast interceptor design only to find that it runs out of fuel in roughly 20 seconds. Since I have two strike groups currently that both only have one of these to take early cities and scout Tarkhans it feels like speed running. I will have to take it back to the drawing board but we will see how it goes for now.

Speed is lyfe.

Can anyone confirm that you don't get a Dangerous flag if you sit in Ur? I decided to top up the Svestapols tanks while sending off two strike groups right at the start of the game and I didn't seem to get into trouble.

I dispatched 2 groups of 4 planes with unguided rockets to attack the an aircraft carrier group I had spotted and our planes met and passed one another... then all of my planes were gone.

I've had the same happen. It's very useful when intercepting aircraft though: As long as a single of your aircraft get through your opponents aircraft disappear.

Would love a instant replay of the final shot, in a similar vein to the post battle wreckage screen already suggested. These things don't really fit the simulator feel, but maybe a little explosion porn would be in line with militry ops.

Beat the game last night, was my second run getting to the end and I set up specifically for what the endgame scenario was going to be and it was STILL hard as hell. So much fun, this game is so great.

*edit*
Patch just dropped which fixed the missing aircraft bugs. This nearly caused me to fail the endgame last night. I lost like 30 craft in a go.

The hard difficulty rebalance. Adapted for experienced players who have completed the campaign.
Fixed frieze of repair.
Fixed an error leading to an excessive increase in the size of save files and wasting RAM.
Fixed spam of proximity fuse ammo.
Fixed an error leading to a Game Over screen at the end of the prologue.
Fixed an error when restarting a campaign.
Fixed an error with the disappearance of aircraft when intercepting missiles near your aircraft carrier.
Fixed an exploit that allowed to safely intercept missiles in front of a player's squadron.
Fixed an error leading to a crash in the editor when using large fuel tanks.
Fixed an error leading to the sale of legs during repair.
Fixed an error with the wrong position of the legs when loading the ship in the editor.
Changed the balance of bonuses for points when restarting a campaign.
Fixed a problem with the disappearance of images for ship designs.
Fixed image compression when playing in a window.
Fixed a situation where the player could not save survivors in any way and received a guaranteed reputation penalty.
Fixed a crash in the dialogue between Peter and Daud.
Fixed bug with mouse wheel when raw input is off.
Fixed bug in alarm counter.

You know how, on the map, the cities are spaced roughly on a grid, so the lines linking the cities are always roughly a similar distance? Hidden cities still follow the same random map generation rules as the normal ones, it just doesn't show them to you. So, if you see an obvious gap in the coverage of cities on the map, like a wider than usual gap between 'areas', or a ring of 5-6 cities around an empty space in the middle, go send a Skylark to follow the roads out from one of the ones on the edge.

Should be fairly balanced with the existing ships, though I haven't tried it in campaign properly yet.

At the risk of attracting sneers and grumbles, I've been having rather more fun with campaigns where I pre-mark the hidden cities.

Given that there are 6 randomly scattered about, and they're pretty front and center to the success of your fleet, trying to hunt for the bastards out in the desert is pretty hellish.

So I start my new campaign, I throw down 6 markers, and then I match their x/y coords in the save to the hidden cities, and presto, I'm a drat dirty cheater.

Yeah, even though my computer is comfortably over the minimum specs, this is completely unplayable, especially when I get close to the ground (for some reason?) It just slows down unbearably. Lovely game otherwise, would love to play, just not sure how to fix it. I'll wait until they've ironed out the little lovely stuff I guess.

I updated my drivers and this problem went away, but it's back now and I'm not sure how to fix it. I have 16 gb memory and a 1030, I think. Not sure what could be causing the slowdown but it happens most often near to the ground. I've even turned off all effects and it still happens.

Flagship:

Heavy Cruiser:

The CV and the CA hang out together, with the CA being intended to finish off SG's

CVL:

2 light carriers form the core of my own 2 strike groups

CL:

Light cruisers are the main striking force/town takers

As you'll note, they're all 300kph, towards optimal fuel efficency when combined with a buttload of heavy tankers:

Generally I am pressing forward with recon flights off the carriers, and then moving into the recon bubbles "tender" tankers with some EW capibility:

While some light EW vehicles skulk at the edges to hopefully draw off cruise missile strikes etc

To my understanding, ships that are held-back speed wise lose fuel efficency, so I've got my core fleet elements and fuel tankers running at 300 kph, with the tenders at 480 and the light EW's at 800. If any of these seem cool lemme know and I'll add them to the sheet

I've tried using planes to strike a city and while they got there before the signal count down and annihilated the enemy an alarm still went out after the battle... Is that a bug?

Also radar based missiles can still be used against jammers, just got to activate them right in front of the enemy. Wasted 3 nukes figuring this out against a strike group but I couldn't run away from them.

Speaking of do they respawn once you kill one?

as far as I can tell, nothing respawns except possibly trade convoys. if you just go around murdering everything you'll eventually hit a point where the Strike Group and Tactical options at captured signal stations become unclickable because there are no valid groups left for them to report on. I've never managed to get there with trade convoys but I can't tell if that's because they respawn or just because there are loads and loads of them.

edit: however I'm pretty sure that once you take Khiva the game spawns in an extra strike group in addition to the 2 missile carrier groups because I've cleared every city on the map and murdered every strike group I could find multiple times but there's still always one strike group that I have to deal with in the last stand
